Introducing Deep Care: "Postpartum is Forever: The Fourth Trimester"

Newborn babies need a lot of care, and so do new parents. In this episode, Kaytura dives into life after birth, and how Black community midwives hold families during the postpartum period, a time when support systems tend to fall apart, and conventional medical care often falls short. • The Second Cutting of the Cord: What Actually Happens When You Go Back to Work

    25 Aug

The Second Cutting of the Cord: What Actually Happens When You Go Back to Work

Twelve weeks of parental leave. Then you're back at your desk, wondering why it feels so hard. Today we’re posting an episode from Rattled, our podcast for parents of newborns and babies, because it’s about something everybody experiences. It’s the final part of our three-part series with Care.com on finding care for your baby, and it's about a transition nobody preps you for: going back to work. Dr. Becky sits down with Lauren Smith Brody, journalist and author of The Fifth Trimester, who's interviewed hundreds of working moms about this exact moment (and lived it herself). Lauren calls her own first day back "the second cutting of the cord." She's got names for feelings you didn't know had names: benevolent discrimination, gatekeeping, the 0.5x version of yourself who has to show up the second you walk through your front door. They also get practical: how to turn decisions into systems before decision fatigue wrecks your evening, what a "ramp up" program actually looks like, and why mom guilt is, in Lauren's words, "a sexist, classist social construct" you can solve for like a math problem. This episode is brought to you in partnership with Care.com. Find background-checked nannies, sitters, and daycares at Care.com, and use code BECKY35 for 35% off your membership. * Thank you to our partners for making this episode possible: Pampers Easy Ups: Start your potty training journey with Peppa Pig Pampers Easy Ups Airbnb: Host your home or book your next stay on Airbnb LMNT: Get a free gift with your purchase at drinkLMNT.com/goodinside Oso & Me: Use the code OSOGOOD15 for 15% off clothes newborn through age ten Care.com: For a limited time, you can use the code BECKY35 to save 35% on a Care.com Premium Membership.* *Offer applies to initial term of Care.com membership subscriptions. • Is It Normal? The Pregnancy Podcast - coming soon!

    Season 1 Trailer

Is It Normal? The Pregnancy Podcast - coming soon!

This podcast will follow my pregnancy week by week because despite it being my 3rd pregnancy I still worry, google everything and need reassurance so I thought I’d do this series in which I speak to different experts to explore & reassure everybody about what is going on with our bodies and our babies. We will address common concerns and symptoms, what you can do to alleviate them and what is happening with your baby at each stage of the pregnancy. Our main contributors will be two brilliant health professionals - Jess McMicking, a consultant obstetrician and midwife Isabel Bourton, but we’ll also be hearing from sonographers, mental health experts, home birth midwives, reflexologists, doulas, osteopaths the list goes on... And with the help of questions from other pregnant people this podcast aims to cover all aspects of pregnancy and giving birth.  ‘Is it Normal? The Pregnancy Podcast’ is a reassuring helping hand, not an instruction manual, and will hopefully ease some of those fears that many pregnant people have, whilst offering them plenty of options to make their own informed decision on how they give birth and most importantly, empower them; a space for frank, open and positive dialogue The series starts on the 20th of September Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Discovering Why God Made You

The late Steve Farrar invites listeners to consider life not as an accident, but as a purposeful design rooted in God’s sovereign plan. Beginning with God rather than self, he uses Scripture to show that every life is intentionally formed, spiritually awakened by faith, and prepared in advance for meaningful good works. Through trials, growth, and obedience—including a call to sexual purity — Dr. Farrar underscores that God’s wisdom can be trusted, offering deep comfort and direction for a blessed, purpose-filled life.Receive a copy of the "How to Ruin Your Life by 30" bundle and an audio download of "Discovering Why God Made You" for your donation of any amount!
