    Jennifer

In this conversation with Simon, Jennifer shares that her deepest aim is to help others so they don’t feel the kind of pain and loneliness she grew up with. Hockey shaped much of her identity—great coaches modeled teamwork and character, but a sudden cut from her college team left her questioning who she was without the “starting goalie” title. Family and relationships often reinforced the idea that she was valued more for her performance than for her person. Her relationship with her mom remains the hardest: controlling, self-focused, and unpredictable. Jennifer learned to walk on eggshells, set boundaries, and carry guilt she never should’ve held. Living in the same apartment complex has kept that tension close, so her mom’s upcoming move brings relief mixed with complicated emotion. Spiritually, Jennifer always sensed something bigger but had early church experiences marked by judgment and hypocrisy. Things changed when she saw the authentic faith of friends in Virginia and began watching Waymaker Church online. Hearing that she didn’t need a “resume” to be loved by God resonated deeply. After a year of virtual participation and discipleship, she chose to be baptized. She still struggles to feel unconditional love and rarely asks for help, but she’s slowly becoming more fully herself—seeing even her wounds as part of what allows her to walk with and care for others. Hardy

In her conversation with Jason, Hardy explains that her life aim is to pursue peace, calm, and emotional balance—something she only began valuing deeply about four years ago when her marriage began to fall apart. She describes how her relationship slowly shifted from partnership to inequality: growing pressure to conform, carrying most of the household and childcare load, losing her independence, and constantly feeling unseen as her husband became increasingly ego-driven and focused on his own success. Much of her stress also came from cultural expectations and a difficult mother-in-law situation, where she felt she had to stay agreeable and compliant to keep the peace. Eventually she realized she was living in a system where she had no voice, no partnership, and no space to be herself. Leaving the marriage was painful but necessary, and it marked the beginning of her rebuilding—through counseling, supportive friends, and rediscovering her independence. Spiritually, Hardy says Sikhism never gave her answers or understanding—only pressure to follow rules without explanation. After stepping away from it years earlier, she gradually encountered Christianity, which offered a space to ask questions, explore truth, and actually understand what she believes. Through Alpha, Village Church, and conversations with friends, she began to feel grounded, hopeful, and connected to something meaningful. She’s now learning, slowly and steadily, to trust her own voice, rebuild her inner peace, and root her life in faith that feels real and comprehensible.
