American Hysteria explores how fantastical thinking has shaped our culture – moral panics, urban legends, hoaxes, crazes, fringe beliefs, and national misunderstandings. Poet-turned-podcaster Chelsey Weber-Smith tells the strangest stories from American history and examines the forces that create the reality we share, and sometimes, the reality we don't.

I keep downloading this podcast and listening to 10-20 minutes and have to turn it off… I’ve done it so many times now. I really want to listen and I want to love it! But. The. Disjointed way. The host. speaks. Is Too hard. To take. Plus the sound effects and background music are so distracting. The content is so great but the auditory experience is a nightmare. Sadly deleting the feed once again.
Why speak like that? :(

I want to love this podcast so much. I love the content and what topics are covered, but I can’t listen. The way the host speaks (I guess it’s her cadence?) is so off putting and irritating to me. It’s extra frustrating because I’ve heard her on You’re Wrong About and she was speaking totally normally, and she is super brilliant and interesting! I just can’t listen to anyone speak like that.
