Between Peaks

banffcanmorefoundation

Between Peaks is a podcast from the Banff Canmore Foundation (BCF) about life in the Bow Valley. Each episode features conversations with people connected to BCF’s work, including neighbours, nonprofits, community organizers, donors, funders, and others who spend their time engaged with local issues. We talk about what people are trying to address, what gets in the way, and what keeps them involved. Set in the Bow Valley in the Canadian Rockies, the podcast reflects on the issues that shape everyday life, including housing, food security, climate pressures, access, and belonging. It’s a space for honest conversation about what it takes to care for a place, and the people in it, over time.

How Pilot Programs Help a Community Respond to Food Insecurity

In this episode of Between Peaks, we sit down with Quinn Currado, Program Manager at The Homelessness Society of the Bow Valley, to explore the realities of food and basic needs insecurity in the Bow Valley.  Quinn shares what food insecurity looks like locally, the pressures facing individuals and families, and how pilot programs can help communities respond with agility and care. We discuss the Community Food Cupboard initiative, why low-barrier access matters, and how dignity, collaboration, and responsiveness shape effective support systems.  This conversation offers a grounded look at how communities test solutions, learn quickly, and evolve programs to better meet changing needs.  IMPORTANT UPDATE This episode was recorded prior to the conclusion of the Community Food Cupboard pilot program, which ended on November 1, 2025. Since recording, there have been significant updates to the program.  Check out our website to find programs and operating times.   For the most current information, please visit the Community Food Cupboard webpage on The Homelessness Society of the Bow Valley website.    Learn More  The Homelessness Society of the Bow Valley  Follow on social media: @bowvalleyshelter  Instagram | Facebook | LinkedIn  Community Partners  Bow Valley Food Bank  Bow Valley Food Alliance  FCSS Canmore  Hosted by Nancy Dadalt  Music by Arn Smit, local Banff artist  Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/artist/15KX2mP4zlvtDxSQ62IZbV  Instagram: @arnsmit  Bandcamp: https://offleashlocals.bandcamp.com  Produced and edited by Calder Penny of Far Side Filmshttps://farsidefilms.ca/our-story/  Executive Director: Courtney Babott  https://banffcanmorefoundation.org/
