Commander ad Populum Ep 58 - Stay Present while Looking ahead

Commander ad Populum Ep 58 - Stay Present while Looking ahead

Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people.

In this week's Community section I touch on both the importance of living in the now, but also looking ahead. Planning for your education, career and things your passionate about are just as important as being present in the here and now. As it relates to Magic, enjoy the sets that are in front of you. You don't always need to drop everything you're doing to grab the latest product. Additionally though, if the latest product doesn't speak to you, plan to use your Magic budget on future products that will be sure to please.

The Technical section this week looks at mechanics that were introduced in the set Saviors of Kamigawa. This small set in Kamigawa Block introduced the mechanics Sweep and Channel.

Today's set Retrospective highlights: Saviors of Kamigawa! The quality, from a Commander standpoint has gone down as we've progressed through Kamigawa Block. But, the cards that do impact Commander do so in a very meaningful way!

If you'd like to give me your thoughts on today's topics, hit me up on Twitter @CadPopCast. You can find me on Facebook, here: Facebook.com/CadPopCast. Both the Twitter and Facebook feeds have threads for each episode of Commander ad Populum. Let me know what you think.

Commander ad Populum Ep 57 - Staying Connected with the Magic Community

Commander ad Populum Ep 57 - Staying Connected with the Magic Community

Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people.

In this week's Community section I tackle a remind everyone to stay connect with those they play Magic with. I recently had a video chat with some of my Magic friends from around the world and it reinvigorated me! The mental and emotional high of connecting with others and talking about the game we love is second to nothing if you need a little pick-me-up. Additionally, I give some hints on the upcoming Commander ad Populum YouTube channel launch and an update on how to get involved with the community deck build I'm doing for Kalamax, the Stormsire. You can find that list here: https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/community-cookout-communist-kalamax/

The Technical section this week looks at mechanics that were introduced in the set Betrayers of Kamigawa. This small set in Kamigawa Block introduced the popular mechanic Ninjutsu and the not-so-popular mechanic Offering.

Today's set Retrospective highlights: Betrayers of Kamigawa! There is a fair amount of Commander cards in this set. Especially if you like ninjas and samurai. That being said, we certainly spend a good amount of time on one of the most power equipment in all of Magic. Umezawa's Jitte.

Commander ad Populum Ep 55 - Singles vs. Sealed

Commander ad Populum Ep 55 - Singles vs. Sealed

Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people.

In this week's Community section I tackle a Facebook topic request. I discuss an argument as old as time. Is it better to buy singles, or sealed product. This drove me to touch on how Magic can influence our decision making process when it comes to budget and personal finances as well. Please let me know if you'd like to hear more on how Magic can influence those parts of our lives!

The Technical section this week looks at mechanics that were introduced in the set Champions of Kamigawa. The leading set in Kamigawa Block had a ton going on. It's mechanics were Splice, Soulshift and Bushido.

Today's set Retrospective highlights: Champions of Kamigawa! As the first set in the Kamigawa Block, Champions brought with it the flavor and feel of ancient Japan. This was Magic's first pastiche world setting. Kamigawa helped pave the way for many more sets that explored real-world history.

Commander ad Populum Ep 54 - Bi-Annual Update and Positive Look-Ahead

Commander ad Populum Ep 54 - Bi-Annual Update and Positive Look-Ahead

Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people.

In this week's Community section I reflect on the last six months and give an my bi-annual update on what's to come from Commander ad Populum. I hope everyone finds it encouraging and is as excited as I am for the next steps!

The Technical section this week looks at mechanics that were introduced in the set Fifth Dawn. Sunburst and Scry. One forgettable, if not in a dedicated multi-color artifact strategy. The other, a now-evergreen mechanic.

Today's set Retrospective highlights: Fifth Dawn! The final small set in the Mirrodin Block! With it's distinctly different feel than the two other sets in the block, this small set gives us plenty of Commander-playable cards.
