WHO ACT Accelerator Update Septmeber 282020
The one that is needed to help fight COVID-19 on the global scale is an easy to use no lab based test. In, a media update the WHO announced such a test and plan to roll it out to underdeveloped or low-income countries. By making a test like this available to lower income countries who do not have the lab resources at the ready, more people globally can will be tested and treated for the virus. The test reacts with antigens and will produce results in minutes instead of days. For poorer countries this helps lower the cost to save lives. This new test is just one the tool developed through the ACT Accelerator.
WHO Media Update September 25 2020
Today, WHO and our partners are publishing a detailed strategic plan and investment case for the urgent scale-up phase of the ACT Accelerator, building on the success of the start-up phase.
By the end of next year, the ACT Accelerator aims to deliver 2 billion doses of vaccine; 245 million courses of treatment; and 500 million diagnostic tests to low- and middle-income countries.
The number of countries joining the COVAX facility grows every day. As of today, 67 high-income countries have formally joined and another 34 are expected to sign, joining 92 lower-income countries who are eligible for financial support through Gavi.
The current financing gap for the ACT Accelerator stands at 35 billion dollars. Of the 35 billion dollars, 15 billion dollars is needed immediately to exploit the ACT-A progress to fund research and development, scale up manufacturing, secure procurement and strengthen delivery systems.

“There has been one new health-care facility outbreak at Yaletown House in the Vancouver Coastal Health region. The outbreak at the Queens Park acute-care facility has been declared over. In total, 12 long-term care or assisted-living facilities and three acute-care facilities have active outbreaks.
