The dicksnjanes podcast is literally what happens when you take a self-published 'zine and turn it in to a kind of home-produced audiobook version of itself. It is unlike any other podcast I have ever listened to; definitely an acquired taste, you will hear little else beyond the ramblings (a term I use with affection) of The Scarborough Dude, and the bits of music he tosses in to tie his spoken word clips together. The Dude can often be found podcasting in his natural habitat, sitting on a bench at Bluffer's Park in Scarborough, Ontario, telling you about the things going on his life. Topics he discusses range from the broadly political to the personal and mundane, but whether The Dude is tackling world religions or the faulty electrical system in his car, his candour is complete. All is filtered through the lens of the Dude's unique and personal worldview, making each week's episode something to look forward to, and comes to feel like time you've scheduled to spend shooting the bull with a friend.
Always thought-provoking, sometimes profane, occasionally funny; each week brings a new oddly subversive, honest and irreverent journey through the world of the Hunter S. Thompson of podcasting. It's difficult to explain, but this quirky podcast (and this particular podcaster) has a personal charm that is unlike anything you've heard before.
