Ep 36 | Healing From Politics
What happens when you are the story and are telling the story? Gerren Keith Gaynor, White House correspondent and Managing Editor of Politics for The Grio, covers the current state of politics as a journalist. As a black queer man he has had to balance what that means in reporting the stories of our country and world while processing them personally in real time. Upon his graduation from Morehouse, the day before his father’s passing, his father foreshadowed and predicted his success in journalism before Gerren had even seen it for himself. In this conversation he pushed us to be open minded as we take in the news of the world and how it affects us. So what can we do? Go educate yourself on your local leaders and representation and know your vote and voice matters!

Ep 34 | Healing Through Forgiveness
Join Alicia and Alechia, Triggered AF Podcast cohost, as they discuss why picking your partner is the most important decision and how dating is not trash, but how we date is trash. Learn more about the playbook they’ve created for meeting potential dates (airport lounges y’all!). Sometimes the act of forgiveness helps us reconcile with a trigger and sometimes the act of forgiveness is directed towards ourselves. After a self-realization that she had to break up with what she thought she wanted, Alechia says “You cannot decide to marry your trauma and your freedom“ in a mic drop moment forcing us all to face the duality of forgiveness and freedom. Follow along, download the playbook and we’ll see you back here next time!

Ep 33 | Healing Through Food
Today we sit down with marketing professional turned viral cooking sensation, Alex Hill. From instant Cafe Bustelo, to apple cobbler to jollof rice, food tells the stories of our lives and Alex realized early on how food is so closely tied to emotions. Inspired by her mom’s cooking from an early age, Alex’s experimentation turned into flavorful, comforting (and sometimes spicy!) meals made with love. Alicia and Alex talk about everything from what it’s like dating out here in these streets to experiences with therapy and self-growth. From sitting on the floor eating homemade pasta and crying to grieve and heal from the end of a relationship or being served your favorite foods by your family when you come home, food is love and comfort and home. You’re going to be hungry after listening to this conversation so do yourself a favor and follow Alex’s IG, go watch her show Spice Spice Baby on Tastemade’s streaming channel and subscribe to her newsletter Food & Feelings for all the recipes and food inspo.

Ep 32 | Healing Through Writing
We need a minute y’all! As we explore healing this season, we may need a few pauses, deep breaths and “run that backs” as we get into these profound conversations. It was our honor to sit with Jonathan Jones and learn more about how he developed his personal journaling practice and how it helped to give him space to remove the imposed boundaries within the pages. Jonathan is the creator of the I’ve Been Going Through Something Journal and founder of The Journal Club. While sitting in his living room this father of five created something intended to heal himself and found a tool that could heal others around the world. You read that right, five kids! If he can prioritize self reflection and mindfulness, we all can. In our conversation we explore betrayal, self-forgiveness and shame but somehow in a light and gentle way. And you won’t want to miss one of the best rapid fire sessions to date. Cop your own journal at the link below and enjoy this special conversation.

Ep 31 | Healing Through Language
Yerp or Yert. Out Of Pocket or For Real For Real. Death and life is in the power of the tongue. The lingo and the language of our people has been scrutinized and judged by other groups and cultures against their “norms”. In this powerful conversation we discuss the nuances in languages, labels, perception, culture and community. Marvin Malone’s compelling TED Talk on Speaking to the Crowd inspired us to dive deeper into how language defines and creates community. And through doing so, the duality of how culture creates language and language creates culture.
