Sermon on the Mount Overview - May 3 2026`

In a world that measures success by power, recognition, and self-advancement, the idea of being “blessed” often feels tied to comfort and achievement. People speak of blessing as good circumstances, personal wins, or visible prosperity. Yet when Jesus speaks of blessing, He turns those expectations upside down. He describes a kind of life that does not chase status, does not depend on ease, and does not fit neatly within the values of a fallen world. To be blessed, according to Jesus, is not about having everything go right. It is about having God’s approval. It is about belonging to His kingdom and living under His rule, even when that places us at odds with the culture around us. This kind of life will often look strange. It will seem weak where the world demands strength, humble where the world celebrates pride, and merciful where the world seeks revenge. It is a life marked by paradox, where loss can be gain and sorrow can lead to joy. These are not natural instincts. They do not come easily to us. Yet they are the very qualities that define those who belong to God’s kingdom. We must see clearly that Jesus is not merely setting a standard for us to imitate. He has perfectly lived this life on our behalf. He is not only our model but our Saviour. It is through His righteousness that we are welcomed into God’s kingdom and empowered to live in a way that reflects it. Jesus Changes Water into Wine - March 29 2026

Jesus’ first miracle in John 2:1–11 took place at a wedding in Cana of Galilee, where He turned water into wine. This moment revealed His glory and led His disciples to believe in Him. The setting itself is meaningful: His first sign happened at a wedding, underscoring the value of marriage, family, and the relationship between Christ and His church. Scripture begins with a wedding and ultimately points to a final wedding, reflecting God’s redemptive plan from beginning to end. Even when life feels empty—when “the wine runs out”—there is hope, because God restores and provides. Mary’s instruction, “Do whatever He tells you,” highlights a simple but profound principle: faith expressed through obedience opens the door to experiencing God’s work. Rather than trying to control outcomes, believers are called to submit to God’s will. The servants at the wedding filled the jars completely and followed Jesus’ instructions without hesitation, demonstrating wholehearted obedience. Their actions preceded the miracle; the water became wine as they faithfully did what He asked. This transformation illustrates what happens when people fully follow Christ. It is not merely knowledge about God that leads to change, but active obedience. When Jesus’ commands are followed, restoration, healing, and unexpected blessings often emerge—reminders that God is able to bring something better than what came before, saving “the best till now.” Scripture: John 2:1-11 Guest Speaker: Ming-Peng Gong
