Ostensibly a discussion of the cinematic arts, The Film Podcast features a core of regular characters and occasional guests. Within the framework of a completely improvised conversation, the dialogue ranges far beyond the filmic, straying into very raw and honest moments of self-discovery and revelation. The central figure, Ricardo, often presents an element of bathos, steering the mimetic narrative abruptly from the sublime to the ridiculous; at once both hero and anti-hero. The central conceit is inherently contradictory: set at the geographic center of the movie universe, yet these are outsiders. Moreover, the notion of contemplating an audio-visual art form within an exclusively auditory medium forces the listener to confront the imponderable question: Are any of us seeing the big picture?
