    Democrats Can Still Win The House in November

    The generic ballot still shows a six-point Democratic advantage. Since early last year, Democrats have outperformed Kamala Harris's 2024 numbers by 13 to 15 points across 32 special elections. Republican enthusiasm is low, the party is divided, and Donald Trump is not on the ballot this fall. Trump's approval on the economy, inflation, and immigration is worse than Joe Biden's numbers were at their lowest. The Iran war is historically unpopular, and with the Strait of Hormuz still closed, the worst economic pain — including potentially $10-per-gallon gas in California — has not yet hit. Eighty percent of Americans, in a strongly bipartisan poll, blame Trump and the Iran war for rising prices. That economic pain is expected to peak right before the midterms. On the gerrymandering front, Texas redrew its map to gain seats — but three of those new districts are heavily Hispanic and Latino, populations that shifted toward Trump in 2024. Those gains may evaporate, potentially turning into Democratic pickups. Hawk also speaks honestly about the racial dimension of these court decisions, reflecting on the experience of Black Americans who are not surprised by any of this — and what it means that the crowning achievement of the Civil Rights era has effectively been dismantled, rendering the votes of 26 million Black Americans in the South nearly meaningless. The firing of hundreds of thousands of Black federal workers, the targeting of universities and corporations with DEI policies, and the Supreme Court's systematic gutting of the Voting Rights Act are all part of the same pattern. Chief Justice John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, and Samuel Alito have spent decades working to eradicate the Voting Rights Act, the landmark 1965 legislation that Hawk argues represented the first true moment the United States became a functioning representative democracy.     Rather than letting it go, Patel has responded in ways that are raising serious red flags. He filed a $250 million defamation lawsuit against Fitzpatrick and The Atlantic. He then directed the FBI to open a criminal investigation into the journalist who wrote the story. And now he has ordered polygraph testing of more than two dozen current and former members of his own security detail and IT staff. Hawk points out a glaring legal contradiction: by suing for defamation, Patel is claiming the allegations are false. But by simultaneously launching a criminal leak investigation inside the FBI to find out who talked to Fitzpatrick, he is effectively confirming the stories are true. You cannot claim something is fabricated while hunting down the people who allegedly fabricated it. FBI rank and file agents have no loyalty to Patel. Former agents have gone on record saying the level of contempt inside the bureau for Patel is unlike anything they have seen. He has purged roughly a thousand senior agents, hollowed out institutional knowledge built over decades, and the DOJ has lost close to 7,000 employees nationwide. The people keeping this country safe are being fired, overworked, and replaced with loyalty over competence.     The note's contents are brief and striking, referencing 16-year-old charges, a choice to say goodbye, and the phrase "no fun" underlined. Hawk compares the alleged suicide note to a second handwritten note also found in Epstein's cell, noting consistent handwriting, similar phrasing, and that same underlined phrase appearing in both. Also examined is a letter allegedly sent from Epstein to convicted sex offender Larry Nassar, which many on social media have pointed to as proof the suicide note is fake. Hawk compares available examples of Jeffrey Epstein's actual signature from legal documents to the signature on the Nassar letter and finds they do not match, leading him to conclude the Nassar letter is likely fraudulent. Nicholas Tartaglione, Epstein's cellmate, a former NYPD officer convicted of four murders for hire on behalf of a drug cartel, found the note after Epstein's death and gave it to his attorneys rather than prison officials. A judge then ordered it sealed in a courthouse safe, where it remained until last week. Hawk walks through the evidence carefully and shares his honest assessment of what the handwriting comparison reveals about the authenticity of the suicide note.     John Roberts Is A White Supremacist

    The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was the law that made the United States a representative democracy for the first time. Seventeen years after it passed, a young John Roberts joined the Department of Justice and reportedly began what Hawk describes as a 42-year project to undermine Black voting rights and eliminate proportional Black representation in the House of Representatives. Roberts climbed from DOJ attorney to federal judge to Supreme Court Justice to Chief Justice of the United States. Hawk argues that every step of that career was guided by a singular purpose: stripping Black Americans of their constitutional right to vote and their right to fair representation in Congress. That goal, according to Hawk, was accomplished within the past week. Hawk reflects on growing up in rural Ohio and how easily he could have turned out differently, using that contrast to highlight what he sees as the deliberate, career-long racism embedded in Roberts' judicial record.
