Sphere (1998)

Watch out for those jellyfish and be nice to Jerry the alien, because we're talking Barry Levinson's misguided 1998 adaptation of Michael Crichton's novel Sphere! Join us as we try to figure out just what went wrong with this thing. From the lackluster direction to the hectic editing to the uneven performances (Sharon Stone innocent), it's hard to find one single reason for Sphere's badness. Hell, we can't even determine when we turn on the film, as the first chunk of it is pretty damn engaging! Micro Queers: Tamara (2005)

For its 20th anniversary, we're revisiting screenwriter Jeffrey Reddick (Final Destination)'s succubus film, Tamara (2005/2006). This one is...perplexing. The script fails to establish how the characters know each other, it punishes them unfairly and in a bizarre order, and the ending is baffling. But it's so trope-y, it's an easy watch, star Jenna Dewan is having a blast, and there's a mean streak that we appreciate. Docteure Drey

This is how I like my podcasts: always entertaining and well-researched, with good chemistry between the hosts and with their guests. There's a warm and easy dynamic between Joe and Trace that makes you feel welcome, and helps navigate some of the more difficult movies and themes they sometimes discuss. I really appreciate how varied their programmation is! From light movies (Freaky, Student Bodies...) to darker ones (Calvaire, Deadgirl...), and even the occasional TV shows (the Chucky TV series, the Hannibal TV series), there's something for everyone, and you always learn something - be it on the movie/show production, its reception, or how it relates to queerness and queer themes. You can sense that Joe and Trace work hard on this podcast, and it shows. 5 stars no notes!
