Hello guys thank you for putting out this podcast every week. I’ve been a fan of the other air quotes pods so of course i had to get onboard with a pod about my home province. Kates rant about permitting has inspired me to write this review. I really enjoy your insight & interviews. The issue im concerned with that doesn’t get much attention is how we have 21 municipalities in the lower mainland and 13 for greater Victoria! Maybe they made sense once upon a time but metro van has grown we are 1 big city in denial about being 1 city. between 1 and 21 theres many other numbers to choose from (my vote is for 4-5). Here in surrey there was - huge issue about rcmp vs surrey pd. I say neither it should be metro vancouver PD! Lack of leadership is very depressing. Sorry for my long rant just 1 last point if you every go to willowbrook mall in langley some of it is in the city of Langley and some is in the township of Langley 🤪make it make sense! Best wishes.
Permitting

One of the best overall podcasts anywhere!! These hosts know BC and have exceptional guests that have great insights. However the discussion on natural resource permitting, while very interesting is mis-informed. Permitting delays/timelines are almost completely about government policy, not about the public service just going slow (although there is some truth to that). DRIPA requires consent. It is a veto, although lawyers may say that by legal definition is not. There are fixes to permitting in BC but it is more about changes significant policy decisions as it is about creating more efficiency in the public service. The province recently reorganized ministries from a one window approach back to a sectoral approach adding more delays. Anyway great discussion looking forward to more.

Supremely enjoyed the Election countdown, your insightful guests, and the many unexpected insights. Recently, I prefer you to the Herle Burly show. The old fella has awesome guests, but of late he has gotten a little too “hail-fellow-well-met hardy-har-har bow-wow woof-woof empty banter banter banter” which I associate with being stuck on the Lion’s Gate listening to morning radio. I like the way the three of you mix, with Mike and Geoff (the two curmudgeons who know too much) asking good hard questions (though not often enough) and Kate keeping things going and sometimes attempting to ask hard questions when the old guys are winded and start lapsing into the same old war stories we heard last month. Keep up the Skookum work!
Fabulous job

Your 18 election daily podcasts were insightful and a true delight. You all also show such respect and good feeling towards each other. So, I raise my vanilla latté to you, for a job well done.
Weird Politics

BC politics has a reputation for being a little strange and it turns out some of the punditry is a little strange as well.
Thanks

Have enjoyed the daily shows through the writ period. Great timing for the show to start in a new era of BC politics. Looking forward to your breakdown on the election results next week.

Badly Needed and Much Appreciated

There’s not a lot of BC centred political reporting anymore, and what there has been of late (some exceptions) has served up pretty thin gruel. Hotel Pacifico’s arrival on the scene has been a godsend! It’s terrific to have access to regular well informed political commentary again. Yes, it’s coast focused most of the time but at least this podcast makes an effort to reach out for Interior perspectives and guests from time to time. The election coverage has been great! Looking forward to having Glen Clark join our three regular hosts as the pod’s fourth “mouseketeer” at some point in the not too distant future. Keep up the great work!

I really enjoy your podcast, particularly Kate and Geoff. I understand that people can be partisan, but Mike is seriously annoying. I sometimes stop listening or at least yell at my iPhone when he talks. He is such an apologist for the BC Conservatives and doesn’t seem to understand that people who are right, centre-right aren’t monolithic. I’ve lived in BC all my 65 years except for 1 year and it’s always bothered me that the province has been so polarized. There are many, many voters who would never vote for a simpleton like Rustad and his clown bus but may not want to vote for the NDP either. The BC Liberals actually provided that option and the trend to just two polarized parties is not helpful at all. If the Greens ran candidates in every riding, I’d vote for them rather than have to pick between two parties who are both problematic to me on some issues. Mike just doesn’t seem able to do any non-partisan analysis, particularly compared to Geoff who although was also very partisan during his career, he is very comfortable talking truth about any BC party. I would like Mike to become more honest, rather than answer criticism against the right with a response that starts with “…but the NDP did this…”. As I’m typing, Mike is talking about the set design being a problem for Rustad and I would say that there isn’t a set in the world that could make Rustad look like anything but a human Easter Island statue. You may have had a long political career Mike, but you also sound old and tired like your boy Rustad. If a long-time NDP partisan like Geoff can provide serious and honest analysis, then you should be able to as well. All that said, I’ll still listen because of Kate and Geoff great insight and analysis.
