Slayerfest98 (A Buffy the Vampire Slayer Podcast)

I love Buffy, I love podcasts, so naturally this podcast is extremely My Shit. I've been searching high and low for a good quality podcast about Buffy and examining everything through a queer lens and with knowledge of the future seasons. It's a shtick in TV podcasts that one person has seen the whole series and the other person is a new viewer, but I think this series in particular really benefits from multiple viewings at different ages, so this podcast is actually a good concept and having everyone be on the same page by seeing the series + Angel multiple times really helps connect foreshadowing and shade the uh ... not so great moments of both series. This has been cathartic listening during the pandemic and I'm grateful this exists. That being said, I wish they would improve!! While this isn't "good quality" (mostly sounds - mics are bad, people bang their hands on the table so it interferes with sound and isn't corrected even in late episodes, a producer doesn't keep them on track or reign them in when they're drinking/ thinking they're funnier than they are/forgetting it's a podcast for the public and not just a drunken talk with friends and a mic), the points made and the conversations about themes are really deep and exactly the kind of synthesized points I love to hear about in regards to this amazing show. I hope the quality improves, because this has a lot of potential and it's my fave Buffy podcast

I listen to Buffy podcasts all the time, if there’s a Buffy show I have heard it. But this is by far the best, and it is the only one that doesn’t annoy me away from listening after a binge listen. I’ve been listening since 2020 and I will continue to do so, even into The Magicians coverage (a show I bought solely because the hosts continually recommend it) Great hosts, fun talks while also being insightful. Please have Passion of the Nerd on whenever possible, it makes up for the long wait for his YouTube videos covering the show haha The show is a wonderful grab bag of people who you normally wouldn’t hear talk Buffy a lot of the time, from everyday fans, to actors and politicians. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten pleasantly surprised by a guest host I never thought I’d hear talk about Buffy. Great interviews with the cast and crew of the show. Please talk to Jane Espenson as much as she will let you, and also do more wonderful oral histories like the one for Hush, that was a fantastic episode with lots of care put into it. And most importantly, they celebrate the show, rather than using the show as a means to celebrate themselves (AKA Buffering The Vampire Slayer Podcast). This show means a lot to so many people, including myself. It’s nice after being a fan for 15 years that I feel I have found a place to celebrate this show that means so much to me, with people who understand the value of the Buffyverse. Thank you for all the work you put in Ian, and the rest of the Slayerfest crew.

Tom Lenk was recommending this podcast that he was guest starring on, so I gave it a listen and now I’m going back and listening to all the Marvel related episodes. They have great discussions, hilarious takes and rabbit holes, and I appreciate listening to a diverse panel of people chat about the things I care about. I love Buffy too and may one day go back and do a rewatch and listen to the show alongside it. So glad I listened in and have a new show to look forward to!
