    Ep 256 - Tasmania's Tarkine & Conservation Photography with Tim Cooper

    Tim Cooper is a full time picture framer based in northwest Tasmania who spends as much time as possible in the Tarkine, one of the most significant and threatened wilderness regions in the Southern Hemisphere. Since 2016 his photography has focused on the rainforests, rivers and rugged coastlines of this ancient landscape and the very real threats it faces from logging, mining and climate driven fire. His work documents not just the landscape but activists, burn scars and threatened species like the swift parrot, images built around conservation impact rather than likes. In this episode Tim talks about the challenges of working full time while pursuing serious landscape and wildlife photography, how selling at markets helped him refine his personal style and curation, and why he believes the printed image is where photography's real power lies.     Kévin Pagès took a winding road to Iceland. Born in Spain, raised in France, a year in New Zealand sparked his passion for photography, and studies in Montreal turned it into a career. He's been based in Iceland for eight years now and shows no signs of leaving. His early studio work and cinematic portrait style have evolved into abstract landscape photography, often using drones to explore the shapes and patterns of glacier rivers from above. It's distinctive work that earned him Sony Emerging Photographer of the Year in 2016/2017 and a Broncolor GenNext ambassadorship. In this episode Kevin talks about co-founding Arctic Journeys, a private Jeep based photo tour company, his go with the flow approach to shooting in unpredictable weather, and the realities of pricing, licensing and admin that come with running a photography business.     Paul Moon has been photographing the Yorkshire Wolds for years, and that depth of time in one place comes through clearly in his work. It's a landscape most people drive past without stopping, chalk valleys, dry grassland, ancient woodland and wildflower meadows, and Paul has made it his life's work to show people what they're missing. His preference for upright compositions and mid-range lenses over wide angles suits the Wolds perfectly, a landscape defined by twisting forms, shadows and intimate detail rather than grand panoramas. In this episode Paul talks about his long term project focused on Millington Pastures and plans for a self-published book, the influences of Joe Cornish and David Ward on his thinking, and how photography has deepened his understanding of local geology, flora and environmental change including ash dieback.     Ep 253 - Candace Dyer on Moving from Landscapes to Wildlife Conservation Photography

    Candace Dyar started photographing as a way to manage anxiety and depression, taking her Canon SLR out on hikes as a therapeutic outlet. That early connection to nature, combined with an art history background, gradually shaped a practice with a much bigger purpose. Based in Washington State, Candace now works at the intersection of wildlife photography and conservation advocacy, partnering with organisations like the World Wildlife Fund and Defenders of Wildlife to draw attention to threatened species and the ecological importance of apex predators. A wolf encounter in Yellowstone in October 2021 was a turning point that shifted her focus decisively toward wildlife. In this episode Candace talks about using images and captions to challenge misinformation about wolves, educating people on coexistence and the reality of living alongside predators, running workshops in wild places, and balancing the admin side of a photography business with actually getting out and shooting.     Ep 252 - Healing through Woodland Photography with Simon Baxter

    Simon Baxter's path to photography wasn't straightforward. A back injury in 2012 ended his adrenaline fuelled outdoor life, mountain biking, kayaking, snowboarding, and forced him to find a slower way back to the natural world. A labradoodle puppy called Meg did exactly that. Their woodland walks around the North York Moors gave Simon something unexpected. The solitude, the complexity of trees and the therapeutic benefits of time spent among them became the foundation of an entire career. He's now recognised as one of the world's leading woodland photographers. In this episode Simon talks about moving from craftsman to artist, using composition to speak for the trees rather than simply document them. He discusses shooting locally to learn a woodland's rhythms, the mycorrhizal wood wide web as creative inspiration, and building a sustainable business through YouTube, workshops, books and prints alongside his involvement in the 6-1-7 Club with Thomas Heaton.     Daniel Tschurtschenthaler has spent 20 years photographing the Dolomites from his home in Sexten, and it shows. He sees the landscape in frames constantly, and that deep familiarity with a place comes through in his work. A former painter and varnisher, Daniel turned his hobby into a full time career and now runs his own showroom in Sesto. He was also the subject of a three year Servus TV documentary about his life and practice, released in 2022. In this episode Daniel talks about using paragliding to read weather and reach high alpine locations, sleeping on peaks to photograph Milky Way arches, and the aurora fever that gripped him after photographing the northern lights over the Dolomites for the first time in 2023.     Zac Henderson has been shooting since he was 15, starting on his mother's film camera. These days he and his wife live and travel full time in a motorhome across the US, and that nomadic life feeds directly into his work. Zac's photography is rooted in astrophysics, geological time and the kind of perspective shifts that come from thinking seriously about humanity's place in the cosmos. That draws him to deserts, rock formations and volcanic landscapes, places that feel like they could exist on another planet entirely. In this episode he talks about his abstract Dark Matter series using magnets and iron filings, how recent high quality space imagery has influenced his thinking, and his experiments with full spectrum and infrared photography.     Ep 249 - Waterfalls & Wild Mournes with Naomi Savage

    Naomi Savage's photography grew out of a life in music. Shooting gigs in Belfast gave her an eye for light and timing, and after taking night classes in 2017 and learning manual settings properly, she turned that eye toward the landscapes on her doorstep in Northern Ireland. These days Naomi splits her time between solo fine art shoots around the Mourne Mountains, forests and waterfalls, and group hikes with The Mourne Hikers where the pace and storytelling are completely different. She's open about photography being good for her mental health and is balancing a day job alongside dedicated shooting days. In this episode she talks about tough hikes like Carrauntoohil and the Devil's Coach Road, influences like Henry Turner and Alex Nail, accurate color and natural edits for print, and using film photography to reset when digital starts to feel stale.
