    The Oilers want Mike Babcock, but the NHLPA wants its investigation first

    It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today’s podcast, I discussed the Stanley Cup Final, the Oilers' plan to hire Mike Babcock, the NHLPA asking for an investigation, and more. Needless to say, it's been a busy week around here. I kicked off this week's episode with a run-through of what's been happening in the Stanley Cup Final and how I really haven't watched more than a few minutes of it. I know everyone keeps saying that this Final has been electric, and the scores certainly suggest that to be true, but I'm still over here holding a grudge about how Edmonton's season ended. Though that grudge isn't exactly softening after the news came out this week that the Oilers are looking at Mike Babcock to be their solution behind the bench. Given Babcock's sketchy past and lack of success in nearly two decades, I think it's fair to say that many Oilers fans were less than thrilled about the idea. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about my off-season peace before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails.     Waiting for Oilers news, and a nightmarish Stanley Cup matchup

    It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today’s podcast, I discussed the Stanley Cup Final, coaching candidates, summer TV binging, and more. Needless to say, we're in full offseason mode around here. I kicked off this week's episode with a run-through of the Stanley Cup Final and how this could be a nightmare final pairing if you're a grudge keeper like me. Not only do I despite the Golden Knights as a divisional rival, but I've also hated the Carolina Hurricanes since they beat the Oilers back in 2006. How does one choose between two awful outcomes? It's impossible, I say. From there, I looked at the latest news surrounding the Edmonton Oilers. Despite these being quiet days ahead of silly szn kicking off for the draft and free agency, there are some major decisions ahead for our beloved franchise, and that meant there's always something to talk about even if not much is happening. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a guest Righteous Sack Beating before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails.     It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today’s podcast, I discussed the Oilers' coaching Plan Bs, Vegas getting through to the Stanley Cup, Habs vs. Hurricanes, and more. Needless to say, we're in full offseason mode around here. I kicked off this week's episode with a quick recap of my trip to Toronto and how wild it is to be an Oilers fan in other cities across the country. Regardless of the mess going on in their own market, all anyone ever wants to talk about is what's going on in Edmonton. I also looked at the Oilers' current coach stalemate and how the guy they want, Bruce Cassidy, is still being tied up by the Vegas Golden Knights. But with Vegas off to the Stanley Cup Final, it sure doesn't seem like Edmonton is going to get an answer on their man any time soon. While it absolutely makes sense that the Oilers would do their due diligence before making a change behind the bench, the fact that the news broke before they gassed Kris Knoblauch certainly didn't look good. Either way, the Oilers' most important summer in ages started off a little rocky, and it's going to be fascinating to see how and if they can pull themselves out of this tailspin.
