Q&A Saturday May 9 | Maintenance - Free Myth, Worn Shocks & "Your Car Is Too Old" | Mother's Day Weekend

Good Morning Motormouth Crew and welcome back to the Saturday Morning Drive Q&A for Mother's Day weekend! We had some fantastic questions this week covering transmission maintenance myths, worn suspension components, and the all-too common "your car is getting old" conversation many vehicle owners hear far too often. Arthur asks the big one-did waiting too long for transmission service ruin his transmission after hearing "maintenance free" advice? We break down why so many manufacturers and talking heads stopped pushing maintenance years ago and why keeping up with fluid services still matters if you want longevity out of your vehicle. Marg wants to know when shocks should actually be replaced and whether they're truly "good for life." We walk through visual; inspections, leaking shocks, worn bushings, excessive suspension travel, weak springs, and how ride height measurements help determine if a suspension system is sagging and needs attention. Sandra brings a powerful question after being told by a mechanic that her car is " Getting Old"and she should think abut replacing it we discus why every vehicle deserves a proper structural. and mechanical evaluation before anyone starts talking replacement. If the structure is solid, many older vehicles are well worth repairing and maintaining instead of taking on massive monthly payments. A vehicle getting older does not automatically mean it's finished. Proper maintenance, honest evaluations, and staying ahead of wear and tear items is what keeps good vehicles on the road. " The System is Stacked...But Not The Way You Think"

Today's conversation dives into a topic that's been gaining traction online-vehicle quality, long-term reliability, and whether the system is truly working in the consumer's favour. After hearing from multiple engineers who stepped away from major manufacturers, one phrase stood out: " the system is stacked." Not necessarily through conspiracy, but through design priorities, cost constraints, and business models that don't always align with long- term ownership. So where does that leave you as a driver? Do you stay loyal to a product that keeps letting you down...or do you step back, reassess, and make a change? In this episode, we break down: 1) Why some vehicles struggle with long - term reliability 2) How manufacturers priorities can influence what you experience as an owner. 3) The real cost of constantly cycling through vehicles 4) And why switching brands might be the smartest move you make If a product consistently doesn't deliver, it may not be about fixing it anymore - it may be about moving on. Because at the end of the day, your vehicle should work for you....not the other way around. #CaReliability #AutoIndustry #VehicleOwnership. May the 4th Be With Your Old Ride: Why Older Cars Are Winning in 2026

In Today's Motormouth podcast spin off the classic "May the 4th Be With You" line-but we're talking about something far more down to earth:your vehicle. Right now, the buzz across the industry is clear-keep your oldie going. With ongoing reliability concerns and rising costs in newer vehicles, many technicians are quietly saying the same thing 2020-2021 might be the line in the sand. So what's "old" anyway? If a two year old vehicle is already out of warranty, guess what-you own it. Repairs, maintenance, and responsibility all land in your lap. That's no different than a 10-15 -or even 20 -year-old vehicle. The mindset has to shift. In this episode, we break down: 1) Why "newer" doesn't always mean better 2) The reality of full vehicle ownership after warranty 3) Why mileage matters less than maintenance 4) How to start treating your vehicle like it's the last one you'll ever buy Because at the end of the day, your car needs to go from being a zero ...to your hero.
