Jab Jab is one of the most important traditions in Grenada Carnival. During J'Ouvert, masqueraders traditionally cover themselves in black oil or charcoal, wear horns and carry chains. The tradition goes much deeper than just looking wild for Carnival — it represents resistance, freedom and Grenada's history. The music matches the mas. Jab Jab music is raw, repetitive and heavy. Hard drums, bass, chants, call-and-response and that hypnotic rhythm made to move thousands of people down the road together. You don't really stand up and listen to Jab. You get inside it.
