Growing up I never really knew about our families history or culture. I knew that my grandparents were Ukrainian, that they had decorative eggs that I loved to play with, and that I loved to eat pierogis.
My sister @erikanataliahanchar, bless her and her need to KNOW. She researched, she learned, she dug deep into the depths our families unknown story. And being the amazing story teller she is, she wrote about it. I’ve spent countless hours listening to the stories she has uncovered. And because of her I get to feel connected to a part of myself I never knew.
To learn about not just our families history, but Ukraine’s history, the culture, the beauty and the strength has been fulfilling in a way I didn’t know I needed.
Learning the many similarities with the strong Ukrainian women in our family and my own path in life is something I will cherish always.
What an honour it is to say I am Ukrainian. 🩵💛
