In today’s episode, host Hunter invites us on day 113 of our yearlong journey through the Bible. Together, we’ll explore the dramatic story of David, Nabal, and Abigail in 1 Samuel 25-26, reflect on David’s heartfelt prayer in Psalm 63, and witness powerful moments of healing, compassion, and forgiveness in Matthew chapter 9. Stay tuned as we pray together, find strength for the day ahead, and remember that love showed up for you—because you are loved, no doubt about it. TODAY'S DEVOTION: There are needs everywhere. Jesus acknowledges these physical needs without excluding our spiritual needs, the needs of our soul and heart. He sees our need for forgiveness, healing from shame, and regrets. There, he has compassion. There, he reaches out. There, he heals, and there, he forgives. He says to the paralytic, "Be encouraged, my child. Your sins are forgiven." The same is true in our lives. He sees our physical needs, and he sees and responds to our spiritual need—our need for forgiveness, our need for wholeness and healing. He has come to show mercy. In Matthew 9:13, he says, "Now go and learn the meaning of this scripture: I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices. For I have come not to call those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners." He wants us to think about it, to consider the meaning of this scripture. Because so often, our thoughts automatically turn toward what we must do to earn favor with God. We ask ourselves, What must I sacrifice? How might I perform in order to be made right with him? But when our thinking goes there, we miss the point. Jesus tells us to think again— to go and learn the meaning of the scripture: "I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices." Your demonstration of mercy, your heart for others, is evidence that you understand the heart of God— that he has come to sacrifice himself on our behalf, to heal us. He’s not looking for our religious sacrifices; he did what we could not. He brought healing, forgiveness, and hope. He came for the unrighteous, not for those who think they are righteous by the things that they do. God wants me to raise my eyes and see what he sees: the blind, the sick, the bleeding— all people needing his compassion and his life. When we see the way God sees, when we look with his eyes in his spirit, the same response wells up within our own hearts. We have compassion, and we go out and work in the fields alongside him. We participate with him. We are empowered by him. That is what God is up to here. He wants us to see what he sees, and he invites us to join him in the fields, working alongside him with his power, his strength, his joy. And that's a prayer that I have for my own soul. That's a prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. That’s the aching question at the heart of Matthew 8 and, if we’re honest, the question many of us quietly carry. The leper wonders, “Is God willing?” The Roman officer, seeking help for his servant, quietly asks the same. The crowds gathered at Peter’s house come, each with the desperate hope that God’s compassion and power are not reserved for someone else—but will reach even them. Deep down, all of us want to know: Will God cross the distance? Is He willing to touch us at our lowest, at our most unclean and unworthy? So much in our world, and even our religion, tries to sell us the lie of separation—that God is far off, distant, too holy to come near our mess. We get the message that God will keep his distance until we make ourselves acceptable, that we are always just out of reach. But that is not the gospel. The gospel is the declaration that God is not removed. In Christ, He draws near—He steps across every boundary, he sits with us in our worst, he touches what others would call untouchable, and he makes us clean. In answer to every fearful, doubting heart, Jesus says, “I am willing.” He unmasks the lie of separation with the reality of his compassion and presence. God, in Christ, is not far off from you. He is willing, he is present, and he has set his heart to set you free. Where you are right now is not too far. Your struggle, your shame, your uncleanness—none of it keeps him away. The good news is not only that God can restore and heal, but that God desires to do so, and he is already with you, closer than your breath. My prayer today is that I might be rooted more deeply in this union with Christ, that the lie of separation would lose its grip on my heart and mind. That’s my prayer for my family—for my wife, my daughters, my son. And it’s my prayer for you: that you would know, in the depths of your being, that God is willing, God is near, and you truly are loved. May it be so. Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible! This is the essence of all that is taught, yet only a few seem to find it. Only one truly lived that way. He is the door through which we must pass in order for that kind of life to be possible for us. But the gateway to life is very narrow, and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it. Unless we die to our own efforts and come to Jesus for that life, we will miss the kingdom entirely. The road is difficult because it requires us to die to our own selfish way of life. That is why few ever find it. He is the gate into kingdom life. Living a life where we are doing unto others what we would like them to do to us is the gospel working itself out in us. The spirit of Christ transforms our very character, and that is a gift from our good father. It's not something earned, strived for, or sweated out to obtain. No. It's a gift from God. It's a gift accomplished for humanity on the cross. His resurrection life in and for us is what we are celebrating this Easter day. As children, we are to trust our good father. He won't give us a snake if we ask for a fish. He knows how to give good gifts that get to the essence of our very life and come after our heart. He is a good father who gives his children good gifts. This is the good news, the gospel. Ours is to wake up to the reality that he is the good thing, our true life that alone can transform us from the inside out. Ours is to welcome the gospel that transforms us, making us people that love our neighbor as ourselves. We are to seek, knock, find, and pursue him with all our heart, mind, strength, and soul by the power of his Spirit. Then we will begin to experience the heart of our good Father, and he will produce in us the good fruit of good trees. He empowers us to live the way we were always intended to live. Allow God, through his spirit, to transform you. His life in you is what makes you a good tree that produces good fruit. Live with the awareness that your father is good. May that be our prayer and our pursuit today. Let’s dive in! TODAY'S DEVOTION: Jesus, the fulfillment of the law, shows us the heart of God. As we open up the scriptures today and listen to Jesus on the mountainside, delivering his most well-known sermon, the Sermon on the Mount, we encounter a powerful truth. Matthew helps us see a profound contrast—Moses went up Mount Sinai and brought the law, the Ten Commandments, to the people. Now, Jesus ascends a mountain, but he comes with a better message: a message not to abolish the law, but to fulfill it, to bring it to its true purpose. So many of us find ourselves thinking that if we can just keep the law, we’ll be alright with God—as if our life is conditioned on our performance. But Jesus turns this understanding upside down. He fulfills the purpose of the law, showing us that it was always meant to lead us to love. Love is the heart of the matter. Jesus, the far better Moses, draws us right to what matters most—loving God and loving others. Everything else flows from that. We hear Jesus calling us to a life that goes beyond mere rules. “Love your enemies. Pray for those who persecute you. Be salt, be light, pursue justice and mercy. Let your good deeds shine so that all may praise your Heavenly Father.” This is not a burdensome call, but an invitation to the very life of God. It’s the way of love, and by the power of Christ in us, we can walk in it. Our entry into this way of life isn’t based on our ability to keep the law, but on our willingness to experience the love of God for ourselves. When we receive his love, it transforms us from the inside out. That’s what enables us to live the life Jesus describes—a life shaped and fueled by the love of God. May God help us to experience him deeply, for God is love. That’s the prayer I have for my own soul, for my family—my wife, my daughters, my son—and for you, dear ones. May we be people who walk in the way of love, the way of Jesus, and may it be so among us. Amen. In today’s episode, host Hunter invites us on day 108 of our journey through the Bible, drawing our attention to the living Word—Jesus. We begin with the drama of 1 Samuel 19, where David’s life is under threat from Saul, and witness Jonathan’s loyalty and God’s surprising interventions. Our reading continues through detailed genealogies and stories of faithfulness in 1 Chronicles 7, and then we pause with Psalm 59—a song David penned while fleeing danger, crying out for God’s protection and celebrating his unfailing love. The episode concludes with Jesus’ wilderness temptation in Matthew 4, showing his unwavering dependence on the Father and his victory over evil, inviting us all into union with God’s love. So, settle in and let today’s Word point your heart to the One who loves you—no doubt about it. TODAY'S DEVOTION: Jesus is out in the desert being tempted by Satan. In the desert, he's demonstrating his union and dependence on his Father and the Spirit. On the outside, it seems that he's alone. And after forty days of no food, on the outside, it might seem that he's becoming weak. And this is the point of Satan's attack. When it appears that he is alone and weak, he challenges Jesus to break with his Father and the Spirit, to save himself, to get what he came for, to abandon the community of love that he shares with his Father and the Spirit, to take the throne of solitary and sovereign power. This, of course, is where Adam failed. He abandoned the community of love for solitary and sovereign control. And this is where you and I fail. But where we fail, Jesus will not. Seeing our need, he comes and does what we cannot. And because he overcomes, he wins for us our place back into the community of love. Jesus would not be deterred. He would overcome the temptation by demonstrating his union and utter dependence upon his Father and the Spirit. He would win these battles, and he would win the war. And because he won the war on the cross, all of humanity has been invited into God's community of love. And now he invites us to participate with him, with the Father and the Spirit, victorious with him over the evil one, ready to live a life of dependence upon God, living in the reality of our union with God in Christ. Union and communion. Victory and joy are ours. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.   And now Lord,  make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon.  Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope.  Where there is darkness, light.  And where there is sadness,  Joy.  Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. These are the first words we hear the father speak over the son. And through Christ, they are words that have been spoken over all people all over the Earth. God has declared his love for all humanity. He's declared his love for you. So here in this declaration, the heart of the father for all people everywhere, broken, lost, sinner people like you and me, Jesus comes to do all that is needed so that every man, woman, and child can be embraced into the triune love of father, son, and holy spirit. So all humanity can experience the love that is shared in the godhead. So we can be one as they are one. Hear the declaration of what is. Hear the proclamation that you are loved by god. This is not a proposition. God's love and your position as daughter, as son, is not a great opportunity for you if you believe enough or you get your act together enough. It is a declaration of what is. You are loved. You are his. And that is great news. Let's hear this declaration well today and move out into the world, learning, discovering how to live out who we have become. May God give us wisdom, and may God give us joy as we live out this gospel in him. That's a prayer that I have for my own soul. That's a prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, and my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. Today, we're starting our exploration in 1 Samuel 17, where the legendary tale of David and Goliath unfolds, showcasing God's love for transforming situations and overturning odds with faith and courage. Then, we turn to Psalm 9, a heartfelt song of praise from David himself, celebrating God's justice and protection. Finally, we wrap up in Matthew 2, with the story of the wise men visiting the newborn king, and how God orchestrates events for the preservation of His son amid dangerous times. Join us as we uncover the affirmations of God's power in overcoming giants, and how these timeless lessons resonate with us today. Let's get into God's word and let it speak life into our hearts. TODAY'S DEVOTION: God seems to really enjoy reversals where the weapons of an enemy are used against the enemy himself. God has a way of reversing the supposed strength of giants to achieve his victory. Goliath stood defiantly over the people of God. This giant was not just a huge human being. He also had weapons of war. But a young man named David, God’s anointed man, had nothing other than a few smooth stones, a sling, and faith in a God who delights in reversing the strengths of the enemy into weakness. He believed in the God of reversals. So with only a few stones and a sling, God defeated this well-armed giant. The psalmist David says this over and over again. They have dug a pit in my path, but they themselves have fallen into it. The greatest of all reversals is seen in the cross, a weapon used by the giant enemy of our souls to crucify our Lord. And yet the cross was the very instrument that won our victory from sin, death, and the grave. The cross is the greatest reversal of all. God’s in the business of reversing things, and today is a good day to remember this and rejoice in it. As on Saturday, the day before Easter, this was a dark and silent day when it looked like the giant had won. In fact, the taunts of the giant were the loudest that had ever been heard. But on Sunday, if we look carefully, we can see God’s appointed shepherd. Not a boy, but a man. And this man was far better than David. He was the rock that made men stumble, the stone that made giants fall. And he has won the victory. And because of this greatest of all reversals, people from all around the world, like you and me, broken people from every tribe and nation and tongue, can experience the power to overcome one giant after another. God brings about that great reversal for you and me on the cross. Whatever giant you’re facing can be faced today, not with swords or spears or javelins, but in the name of the Lord of heaven’s armies. That’s the prayer that I have for my own soul. That’s the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son. That’s the prayer that I have for you. May it be so.
