You Sound Like A Girl Interrupting Racism; A Podcast Crossover

It's the moment you've been waiting for, another podcast crossover! This time I linked up with Colleen and Emily Rose who co-host the You Sound Like A Girl Podcast. I worked with both of these talented and amazing women in the theatrical piece for this project of You Sound Like A Girl. They both have a theater background and are using their art as activism making a platform to explore and uplift all women's and femme's voices. Recommendation of the Week This week's recommendation comes in conjunction with You Sound Like A Girl Podcast's segment about centering women and femme's voices. Colleen chose to lift the voice and work of Imani Barabarin who created crutchesandspice.com speaks to the intersections of race, gender and disability. Emily Rose chose to lift Sabrina Strings and the book, Fearing the Black Body: The Racial Origins of Fat Phobia  Alexandria chose to lift Ava DuVernay and work that combines art and activism as a way to bring awareness to social injustices that plague Black and Brown communities Support this podcast! MS2E4: Take Care: Black Men Need Love, Not Tough Love; A Conversation with Tosin Akindele, LMSW

The mental health conversation continues! Today we are joined by Oluwatosin "Tosin" Akindele, LMSW (Licsensed Master's Social Worker) on IG: @therapy4usbyus. You can find Tosin on various websites such as therapistsforblackmales.com, menhealing.org and therapyforblackmen.org which can all be great resources for men of color to find a therapist to work with. In this episode, Tosin and I are talking about the healing of men of color with a strong focus on Black men and some of the societal barriers they face when it comes to seeking mental health care. One of the topics in particular is that of male survivors of sexual trauma which is not address enough in our society. Statistically, 1 in 7 males/boys/men have been molested in their lifetime yet we do not often see conversation around this issue. Trauma shows up differently in everyone but in a society where hyper-masculinity is prevalent, this conversation is quite taboo. Please join us for our conversation as we move through various topics. Again, its candid, conversational and real AF. Within the episode, Tosin mentions the Weekend of Recovery retreat offered to male survivors of sexual assault. It is a private weekend led by a team of facilitators, including Tosin.  **CONTENT WARNING**  Please note that the discussion of sexual trauma, PTSD, poverty and racial traumas come up in this episode.
