    Bryan Hayes Interview

Bryan Hayes, host of TSN’s OverDrive, joins Nick Alberga and Jay Rosehill for a wide-ranging conversation on the latest developments surrounding the Maple Leafs. Hayes shares his biggest takeaways from the Chayka–Sundin introductory press conference, noting that both Keith Pelley and John Chayka came across noticeably nervous, while Mats Sundin appeared calm and composed. He admits to being skeptical about the direction, even expressing surprise that the process ultimately led to this leadership duo. Hayes also weighs in on Pelley's awareness of the public backlash surrounding the hire and the difficulty in pinpointing exactly what drew him to Chayka in the first place. The conversation then shifts to the perception that the Leafs are operating more cheaply, with a comparison to the Carolina Hurricanes sparking debate—prompting Hayes to push back by highlighting Carolina’s continued success. From there, he breaks down how he views Sundin’s role within the organization and what he hopes the Hall of Famer can bring to the table. Hayes also touches on what he expects from Chayka in shaping the roster moving forward, along with some thoughts on Craig Berube’s future behind the bench. To wrap things up, he offers his gut feeling on how the draft lottery could play out. 🚨 Subscribe to Leafs Nation on Youtube!🚨 ➡️ / @theleafsnation401 SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!! 👍🏼Powered by @bet365. James Mirtle Interview

Nick Alberga & Jay Rosehill are joined by The Athletic’s James Mirtle for a wide-ranging breakdown of the Maple Leafs’ ongoing GM search and the latest intel surrounding the process. Mirtle confirms reporting from Elliotte Friedman that Toronto did, in fact, request permission from Tampa Bay to speak with Julien BriseBois during their search — a request that was ultimately denied. From there, he dives into where things stand with the Leafs narrowing in on John Chayka, how the process has unfolded behind the scenes, and what level of due diligence actually went into the organization’s evaluation of candidates. He also weighs in on the timeline, noting the uncertainty around when a final decision will be made, suggesting it could stretch into mid-May and expressing surprise if a hire is in place ahead of the draft lottery. Other names still in the mix include Scott White, while Mike Gillis remains a peripheral option despite not receiving an in-person interview. Mirtle also addresses the Tie Domi angle, making clear that Tie Domi is not expected to land any formal front-office role, citing both optics and the fact that his son, Max Domi, is a core part of the current roster. He’s also asked about what makes Chayka an appealing candidate, but admits it’s a difficult question to answer without more clarity from team president Keith Pelley. The conversation rounds out with thoughts on potential turnover in the AGM ranks, the fact that Mats Sundin brings zero front-office experience despite his appeal as a figurehead, and whether head coach Craig Berube is truly secure long-term given contract structure and his relationship with management. 🚨 Subscribe to Leafs Nation on Youtube!🚨 ➡️ / @theleafsnation401 SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!! 👍🏼Powered by @bet365. Mike Rupp Interview

Nick Alberga & Jay Rosehill are joined by Stanley Cup champion and NHL Network analyst Mike Rupp to break down the latest buzz surrounding the Toronto Maple Leafs. Rupp weighs in on the growing speculation around a potential Mats Sundin–John Chayka front office combo, explaining why he’s holding off judgment until concrete decisions are made. He dives into what makes Chayka such an intriguing candidate across the league and shares why he’s a big fan of Toronto potentially leaning on former players to shape its next management group. The conversation shifts to the bench, where Rupp offers his take on Craig Berube’s future, noting he believes the veteran coach deserves another opportunity behind the Leafs’ bench. He also touches on NHL Network colleague Mike Johnson, praising his hockey IQ amid reports linking him to a possible role in Toronto. To wrap things up, Rupp doesn’t hold back on Auston Matthews—questioning elements of his game and suggesting it might be worth the Leafs at least exploring the idea of moving one of their core stars. 🚨 Subscribe to Leafs Nation on Youtube!🚨 ➡️ / @theleafsnation401 SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!! 👍🏼Powered by @bet365. Inside Chayka’s Past & Potential Leafs Future with Craig Morgan

Nick Alberga and David Pagnotta are joined by Craig Morgan—who covered John Chayka during his time in Arizona—for a deep dive into Chayka’s potential return to NHL front-office life and what it could mean for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Morgan shares his initial surprise at Chayka’s name resurfacing in GM conversations, noting he once believed Chayka may have been effectively “blackballed” following his departure from Arizona. He unpacks the scrutiny surrounding Chayka’s tenure, including his relationship with controversial ownership and the broader challenges inside the organization at the time. The discussion shifts to the reported Chayka–Mats Sundin potential partnership in Toronto, and whether having a respected hockey icon alongside him could help stabilize and support a return to an NHL leadership role. Morgan also offers insight into Chayka as a media subject—describing him as open, humorous, and generally transparent—while cautioning that organizational structure in Toronto will be key to how he operates. Finally, Morgan addresses the possible future of Shane Doan in Toronto if Chayka is hired, and what the transition from Arizona’s market to the spotlight of Toronto could realistically look like for Chayka both professionally and personally. 🚨 Subscribe to Leafs Nation on Youtube!🚨 ➡️ / @theleafsnation401 SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!! 👍🏼Powered by @bet365.
