David Alter on the Leafs' 2026-27 Schedule, Chayka's Offseason & Toronto's Biggest Questions

David Alter of The Hockey News joined Nick Alberga & Jay Rosehill to break down the Maple Leafs' 2026-27 schedule and much more. He kicked things off by sharing his thoughts on the Leafs' game presentation, explaining why he believes Scotiabank Arena could use a refresh and why it's a unique challenge getting the Toronto crowd engaged. From there, Alter dissected the newly released schedule, highlighting the league's effort to reduce one-off road trips while pointing out the eye-opening discrepancy in back-to-backs between the Leafs and Canadiens. He also discussed the shortened training camp, what it could mean for the quality of hockey early in the season, and why fans should expect a more free-flowing style of play out of the gate. Looking ahead, Alter revealed the storyline he's most excited to cover this season, weighed in on John Chayka's offseason work, discussed the biggest remaining questions surrounding Toronto's roster—including Gavin McKenna's fit—and explained why he believes Chayka deserves credit for improving the team. To wrap things up, he offered a bold prediction for where the Maple Leafs will be by Christmas and whether they'll be in the thick of the playoff race. 🚨 Subscribe to Leafs Nation on Youtube!🚨 ➡️ / @theleafsnation401 SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!! 👍🏼Powered by @bet365. Darren Pang on NHL 27, Bobrovsky & the Leafs' New Look

Nick Alberga & Jay Rosehill are joined by former NHL goaltender and longtime NHL analyst Darren Pang for a wide-ranging conversation. First, Pang confirms the rumours—he and John Buccigross will be the new broadcast team for EA Sports NHL 27. Yes, fans can expect plenty of "Holy Jumpin'" in the game. From there, the conversation shifts to Toronto. Pang explains why he believes Darren Raddysh is an underrated addition who fills an important need on the blue line, and why fans shouldn't get too caught up in the contract. He also weighs in on the Leafs' decision to bring in Sergei Bobrovsky, calling it a worthwhile gamble that instantly adds credibility, stability, and presence in goal. Plus, Pang shares why he doesn't believe the veteran netminder looks like a goalie nearing the end of his career. Finally, Pang offers his thoughts on the Maple Leafs hiring John Chayka as general manager. While admitting he was surprised Chayka emerged as the choice after spending several years away from the NHL, Pang believes he deserves a fair opportunity and says a second chance could lead to a different outcome. 🚨 Subscribe to Leafs Nation on Youtube!🚨 ➡️ / @theleafsnation401 SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!! 👍🏼Powered by @bet365. Leafs Season Opener Set for September 29 ft. Darren Pang

Nick Alberga & Jay Rosehill react to the Maple Leafs' 2026-27 season opener officially being set. Toronto will kick off the new campaign at Scotiabank Arena on September 29 against the Montreal Canadiens. The boys also weigh in on the Detroit Red Wings moving on from Steve Yzerman as general manager. They then discuss Brandon Pridham officially joining the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he'll reunite with former Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas. The move comes nearly two months after Toronto parted ways with Pridham on May 17, ending his 12-year run with the organization. The conversation continues with reports linking the Maple Leafs to former Bruins executive Evan Gold. After 11 years in Boston, the Toronto native is moving on, and according to The Boston Globe's Kevin Dupont, there were hints over the weekend that Gold could be headed to Toronto's front office. Plus, former NHL goaltender and longtime broadcaster Darren Pang stops by to discuss Sergei Bobrovsky, the Maple Leafs' busy offseason, and why he believes there's plenty of reason for optimism heading into the 2026-27 season. 🚨 Subscribe to Leafs Nation on Youtube!🚨 ➡️ / @theleafsnation401 SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!! 👍🏼Powered by @bet365. Ben Danford on Winning the Calder Cup & Chasing a Leafs Roster Spot

Fresh off winning the Calder Cup with the Toronto Marlies, Leafs prospect Ben Danford joins Nick Alberga and David Pagnotta to reflect on a whirlwind few months. After wrapping up his junior career, turning pro, and capturing a championship on June 19, Danford explains why the moment felt surreal—and why, after reaching the finals for a third straight year, winning was the only thing on his mind. He discusses the smooth transition to the AHL, credits the Marlies' coaching staff and veteran teammates for making him feel at home, and shares what it meant to have Easton Cowan hand him the Calder Cup after Cowan and the London Knights ended Danford's OHL season in back-to-back years. Danford also opens up about working alongside Mark Giordano, the impact the veteran has had on his development, and why newly promoted Leafs assistant coach John Gruden is "someone you want to work for, want to play for, and want to go to war for." Finally, the 2024 first-round pick outlines his offseason priorities, his focus on getting stronger after a long season, and makes his intentions for training camp crystal clear: "At the end of the day, my goal is to make the opening night roster." 🚨 Subscribe to Leafs Nation on Youtube!🚨 ➡️ / @theleafsnation401 SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!! 👍🏼Powered by @bet365.
