Life Lately

Holly Emmerson & Azure Wolfe

Life Lately is a space for honest, in-the-moment conversations about what’s really going on beneath the surface of our lives. Each week, we sit down together to share what’s brewing - messy, magical, and completely unfiltered. From the energetic seasons we’re moving through to the everyday wins, wobbles, and wake-up calls, nothing is off the table. We talk about what’s alive for us right now - from spirituality to everyday life, and everything in between. These aren’t polished “how-to” episodes; they’re real-time reflections from two women devoted to living awake, connected, and true to themselves. If you’re craving conversations that feel like a deep exhale with friends - grounded, honest, a little raw, and a lot heart-led - pull up a chair. This is Life Lately.

    What Brings You Peace?

In this episode of Life Lately, the duo talk about what brings them peace and how, for Holly, meditation and breathwork helps her quiet her busy mind. They describe peace as something we can access by stopping, breathing, and paying attention to the present moment. Holly and Azure also talk about how our minds often create constant narratives and how meditation can help us become observers of our thoughts instead of getting caught up in them and that people can make meditation feel more complicated than it is, when in practice it can be as simple as pausing and returning to the breath. Another topic is the tendency to place peace in the future, like after achieving a goal or reaching a certain point in life. They remind you that peace is available now, and that small interruptions in automatic thought patterns can help us come back to center. They also touch on how taking things too seriously can block peace, especially when we create drama around ordinary situations and emphasize that it's normal not to feel peaceful all the time, and that even brief moments of peace during the day can still be meaningful. Finally, they suggest tying peace to daily habits like waking up, going to bed, walking to the car, or brushing our teeth. So, what brings you peace? Death Bed Conversations

In this episode, Azure and Holly talk about a “deathbed conversations” exercise as a way to step back from overthinking and refocus on what matters. Azure describes using the question of whether we would be glad, at the end of life, that we spent time worrying about a particular issue. They use examples such as aging, appearance, comparison, food choices, and other everyday concerns to show how much energy can be spent on things we would later consider unimportant and reflect on how this perspective can bring us back to what feels valuable and worth our attention. Holly and Azure also discuss legacy and how we want to show up in daily life, including how we want other people to feel after spending time with us. Holly mentions writing a eulogy at a retreat as another way to think about how we want to be remembered, and we connect that to being present, listening, and contributing with intention. They return to the idea that many things are made more complicated than they need to be and describe taking a simpler, more grounded view of life, and end by encouraging listeners to reflect on what they want to be proud of and what may be a waste of time. What Are Dreams?

Holly and Azure explore the intricacies of dream work and spiritual rest, specifically focusing on the idea that it is not merely the body that needs rest but the soul as well. Holly opens the discussion by revisiting a statement she made over a year ago, exploring the essential nature of sleep and its connection to our spiritual selves. With a solid background in dream work, Holly reveals her belief that sleep serves as an energetic plug-in for our souls, allowing us to access the dream world—a realm she views as the spirit world. Holly shares that current scientific studies about dreams often fail to provide definitive conclusions, leaving many unanswered questions about why we dream. Through the lens of her experiences, she explains that the dream state is critical for our spiritual well-being, drawing upon intriguing research that illustrates the significant consequences of interrupted dreaming, noting a study involving rats to highlight the emotional and spiritual impact of disrupted REM sleep. Azure questions why some individuals feel they don't dream or remember their dreams. Holly answers that everyone dreams, but many simply lack the recollection of those dreams. She then offers practical insights into improving dream recall, emphasizing the importance of sleep hygiene and the individual’s ability to access deeper sleep states. She suggests adopting habits that encourage dream memory, such as keeping a dream journal, which can enhance one's understanding and interpretation of dreams. The conversation evolves into the complexities of interpreting dreams. Holly explains how our dreams often reflect not just personal experiences but can also draw from collective energy—a shared subconscious experience. Azure and Holly highlight the significance of viewing dreams from a broader perspective, noting that personal interpretations may differ based on the dreamer’s experiences and connections. They also touch on the fascinating phenomenon of processing emotions and experiences during sleep, particularly when sharing space with others, which can lead to shared dream experiences and deeper interconnections.
