Locked Inside Oxymoron

As a retired (recently) professional w/ forensics experience ... recidivism socialism IS my tax dollar NIGHTMARE! WHY should I give MY tax dollars to people who murder people! Should YOU be watching movies, swimming, outdoor “yard” activities, eating sweets + treats, etc ON my hard earned dime? I think NOT! Segregate imprisoned mentally ill AND make their families pay more money for their “upkeep!” AN eye for AN eye would be cheaper! Great podcast Stellar investigation!
Here’s a thought; How about making family and/ or friends accountable at night for care of THEIR loved one! STOP blaming health care providers AND “pony up” to YOUR familial responsibilities OR back off!

A disgusting example of discriminatory attitudes toward mental health

I am in the mental health field and have some familiarity with forensic psychiatry.

The perjorative language of this podcast is disgusting, painting individuals with severe mental illness (including psychosis) as “murderers” who should never be released once in the forensic mental health system.

Although the host at first appears to be unbiased, it seems that the goal of this podcast is to strengthen the idea that the mentally ill are violent and cannot be rehabilitated.

The host fails to mention key supportive community measures which keep those with severe mental illness treatment compliant after discharge - these include Community Treatment Orders, which mandate an individual with a psychotic illness show up for an injection of a long acting anti-psychotic (or else the individual is brought in by police for the injection) ….

Furthermore, she fails to emphasize that the majority of individuals with severe and psychotic illness DO NOT commit violent crimes - instead they are more likely to remain homeless, unemployed and turn to alcohol/drugs to cope with their issues. They are also much more likely to die by suicide.

Shame. I will not be following. This podcast isn’t fit for any streaming service.

Locked Inside

I work in an emergency male youth shelter where we face some of the same issues. This podcast's portrayal of group homes and people with mental illness is disturbing. Unfollowing and no longer listening.
