From Film to Connection: Cinematherapy, Parenting, and Thriving Together with Merissa Turner

What happens after a story opens something tender inside us — and there’s nowhere to land? In this deeply human conversation, filmmaker and somatic therapist Merissa Turner shares how cinematherapy, nervous system safety, and community support turn insight into real healing. Together, Jennifer and Merissa explore why healing was never meant to happen alone — and how Thrive.one is re-imagining a modern “village” where people are held, not just inspired. In this episode, we explore: Merissa’s path through attachment work (Gordon Neufeld), transpersonal psychology, somatic experiencing, and inherited trauma workThe moment Thrive was born: realizing that inspiring a film is powerful—but people need somewhere to land afterwardsWhat cinematherapy is, and what happens in the body when we see our truth reflected on screenWhy authenticity and vulnerability feel like relief in a productivity-driven worldThe “digital village” idea: healing together, across time zones, with real practices and real peopleThe magic in the muck: how painful chapters become the very source of service and leadership Closing reflection prompt: Where in your life are you craving more authenticity—and what is one small way you could step out of “production mode” this week and into real connection? For more than five years, Merissa has been honoured to serve as part of the Sacred Circle Indigenous Wellness Mental Health team, working alongside community leaders to help shape a new model of healing grounded in culture, spirit, and collective care. Through this relationship, she has been welcomed into learning the ways, beliefs, and laws that guide and protect First Nations peoples — teachings that continue to inform her practice and deepen her commitment to community-led healing. Merissa’s path has also carried her into relationships with Indigenous communities across Turtle Island, Africa, Peru, and Indonesia, where she has learned about reciprocity, kinship, and the sacred responsibilities we hold toward one another. She has walked beside residential school survivors and their families, witnessing the strength, truth, and tenderness that emerge when stories are held with care. As a filmmaker, Merissa explores the landscapes where psychology, spirit, and culture meet. Her upcoming

Your Body Remembers: How Stress, Trauma & Healing Move Through Generations with Anastacia Lundholm

In this intimate conversation, Jennifer sits down with body-mind practitioner Anastacia Lundholm to explore what it really means to come home to yourself through your body. Anastacia shares how subtle sensations become “flags” and then megaphones when we don’t listen, how generational patterns are carried in our nervous system, and why connecting with the body is essential for congruence and choice. She also offers a gentle guided practice to help you ground in gravity, soften tension, and begin a kinder relationship with your own body. What You’ll Hear: The body carries generational stories. Tension, anxiety, and even illness can repeat across family lines when unresolved stress echoes through the nervous system.Patterns are inherited — and interruptible. Healing in one person today can shift what the next generation receives, no matter your family structure.Somatic awareness builds congruence. Slowing down, noticing sensations, and grounding in gravity help you access choice instead of automatic reactions.Your body’s messages start small. Subtle sensations turn into louder signals when ignored — not as punishment, but as guidance.A simple touch-and-breath practice can create immediate change. Anastacia leads a grounding process that softens tension and reconnects you with safety and presence.Self-compassion is essential. Body wisdom comes in pieces, not all at once. Patience and gentleness create the conditions for real insight. Featured Guest: Anastacia Lundholm Anastacia Metcalf Lundholm started 27 years ago as a wellness educator, teaching and celebrating the body’s rhythms in growth and transformation. Her work has taken her to 17 countries in North America, Europe, South America, Australia and Asia. Twenty years ago Anastacia added the Satir Model to her theoretical framework. She is a trainer in Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy online and in person, blending in her experience with the body and its energy. She created SISM, Somatically Informed Use of the Satir Model, which she has been teaching in Asia for several years, and next year in Canada. This work prepares counselors and helping professionals to integrate body awareness and experiential exploration into their work. In 2024 her chapter Bodymind Wisdom in Satir’s Model was published in Virginia Satir’s Evolving Legacy- Transformative Therapy with a Bodymind Connection, along with her poem I am Your Body. In the same year, her chapter Finding a Deeper Presence in the Jungles of Peru was published in The Healing Journey to Authenticity- Stories of Compassion, Courage and Connection. Anastacia brings the insights of the Satir Model and the body-centered personal growth to others in many formats. Her professional development programs enhance our awareness of one's own internal wisdom and the internal wisdom of our clients’ and give us new options to deepen our practice, regardless of what technique we offer. Her goal is to enhance everyone’s ability to interact with their clients towards self-responsibility, congruence and transformation. Her one-on-one coaching services help clients return to themselves and discover inner resources to achieve their goals with increased congruence and inner clarity.
