Dr. Krystal Kohlberg

Most performance advice is built on what works for people in general. This podcast is built on what works for you specifically. Performance Intelligence with Krystal Kohlberg is for high performers who want to understand the deeper mechanics of how they are wired to operate at their best in their work, relationships, and life. Each episode draws on the science of sport and performance psychology and the framework of Human Design to explore the questions the performance industry rarely asks: Why does the same approach produce completely different results in different people? Why do some periods feel effortless and others feel like you're dragging yourself through concrete? And what would it actually look like to perform at a high level in a way that compounds over time instead of slowly breaking you down? Krystal holds a PsyD in sport and performance psychology and has spent over 15 years studying sustainable high performance. Her approach, Performance Intelligence, integrates the science of sport and performance psychology with Human Design to give high performers a precise understanding of how they individually are wired. This is not a podcast about working harder. It's about understanding how you are actually designed to work. New episodes regularly. Subscribe wherever you listen.

11: The Problem With Pushing Through (That Nobody Questions)

Ready to move through work, relationships, and life with less friction? This 90-minute human design deep dive can help you Find Your Flow. What if the problem isn’t that you’re not resilient enough… but that you’re being resilient in the wrong places? Welcome to Munro Musings. I’m your host, Dr. Krystal Kohlberg. I’m creating this space for high performers who are done following the “right” way, and are ready to build a lifestyle that actually fits. I bring together performance psychology and human design to help you understand how you’re wired so you can stop burning out and start working with your own energy. We’ve been taught that resilience, mental toughness, and pushing through are the keys to success. That belief has created a culture where burnout feels normal, and suffering feels necessary. There’s a missing piece in that conversation. Not all hard things are created equal, and some of the struggle you’re carrying isn’t required. I outline the difference between unavoidable challenges, intentional growth, and the kind of burnout that comes from misalignment. That last one is where many people get tripped up. If you’ve been forcing yourself into systems that don’t fit, this podcast will change how you think about effort, energy, and what success actually costs. 10: The Art, Science, & Personalization of Energy Management

In this episode, Dr. Krystal Kohlberg breaks down the science of energy management and why the one-size-fits-all approach to productivity and performance is costing high achievers their results (and their wellbeing). She bridges sport performance psychology with human design to help you discover your unique energy blueprint. What You'll LearnWhy energy management is so much more than rest vs. hustleThe Inverted U Theory and what it actually means for your performanceWhy your optimal energy zone is completely unique to you and can shift by task, sport, or even time of dayHow the 5 Human Design energy types show up differently in performanceHow to stop running on someone else's program and start honoring your own energy cyclesKey Concepts CoveredThe Inverted U Theory (Arousal Management) Your Optimal Zone is Personal The 5 Human Design Energy Types Practical TakeawaysKnow your zone. For any performance area in your life, get curious about where your energy needs to be to do your best not where someone else's does.Regulate intentionally. Sometimes you need to bring energy up (activation techniques); sometimes you need to bring it down (calming techniques). Both are valid and necessary.Honor your energy type. If you're a Projector, Reflector, or Manifestor, you are not built to keep up with Generator pace — and trying to will burn you out. Build in rest accordingly.Generators/MGs: track your lit-up factor. When what you're performing isn't something that lights you up, plan activities around it that replenish your energy.Stop following cookie-cutter advice. Self-awareness + intentional action = sustainable high performance.Quotable Moments"Everyone's optimal zone is different — and not only is it different for each person, it could be different for each task, each sport, each activity." "When we honor the way we were meant to use our energy, we can optimize our performance even more." "If you're running on other people's programs or trying to keep up with everyone else, you're likely to burn out." 9: You’re Not Broken You’re Conditioned: Human Design Meets Parts Work

If you’ve ever wondered why you react the way you do, why certain patterns keep repeating, or why some areas of life feel easy while others feel inexplicably hard — this episode is for you. In today’s episode, I’m combining Human Design and parts work to help you understand yourself without making yourself wrong. This conversation isn’t about fixing you or trying to become someone else. It’s about awareness, compassion, and finally having language for experiences you’ve likely felt your whole life but couldn’t quite explain. We talk about your Human Design centers, what it means to have defined vs. undefined energy, and how conditioning actually shows up in real life — especially in relationships. I also share how I use parts language to relate to different aspects of my Human Design, so instead of saying “this is just how I am,” you can say “there’s a part of me that feels this way.” When you understand where you’re consistent, where you’re influenced by others, and which parts learned to adapt in order to feel safe, everything starts to make more sense. In this episode, we explore:What Human Design centers are and how they influence different areas of your lifeDefined vs. undefined centers (transmitting vs. receiving energy)Why undefined centers are often where conditioning, people-pleasing, and self-doubt show upHow parts work (including IFS concepts) helps you relate to these patterns with more graceWhy saying “a part of me feels this way” can be deeply regulating and freeingHow emotional sensitivity, worthiness, stress, motivation, and identity show up differently for each personHow understanding your design can reduce friction in relationships and communication This episode is especially helpful if you’ve ever: Felt overly affected by other people’s emotionsStruggled with self-worth or feeling like you have to prove yourselfBeen labeled “too much,” “too sensitive,” or “inconsistent”Wanted more ease, clarity, and self-trust in how you show up You’re not broken. Your parts aren’t wrong. They were strategies — and now you get to work with them intentionally. ✨ Want to go deeper? 8: Optimize Your Relationships to Turn Up the Heat in Your Income, Impact, & Intimacy

In this episode, Dr. Krystal Kohlberg introduces her approach to relationship optimization for high-performing couples. Drawing on her background in sport and performance psychology combined with human design, she makes the case for why your romantic partnership deserves the same level of intentionality and investment as your business, health, and career. Key Topics Covered: Why the quality of your relationships determines the quality of your lifeThe research linking relationship quality to health, longevity, stress regulation, and professional successHow we learn to abandon ourselves from childhood and why that pattern continues in adult relationshipsThe difference between fixing broken relationships vs. optimizing good onesWhy cookie-cutter relationship advice doesn't work for unique individualsHow human design reveals your operating system for decision-making, energy management, communication, and moreReal examples of how design differences show up in partnerships (fast vs. slow decision-makers, energy differences, processing styles)Why entrepreneurs are 10% more likely to divorce—and 84% rely on their partner for emotional supportThe caveat: Don't use human design to pick your partner (but do use it to understand them)How this work applies to friendships and all relationships, not just romantic partnerships Key Quotes: "We're here to take good and make it exceptional. We're here to optimize.""I want you to feel this shift from 'you're doing it wrong' to 'you're doing it differently.'""High-performing teams don't make everyone play the same position. Everyone plays to their strengths.""You get to the same goal, but you might do it in different ways.""The research shows that happily partnered people are healthier by a lot of measures than single people. And then single people are healthier than unhappily partnered people.""Your relationship quality doesn't just impact your happiness. It impacts your health, your wellbeing, your longevity, potentially your lifespan."Who This Is For: Couples who are both committed to growth and want to understand each other more deeplyHigh-performers who optimize every other area of life but haven't applied that same intentionality to their relationshipPartnerships that are good but know they could be exceptionalPeople who feel like one partner is "wrong" for being differentAnyone tired of cookie-cutter relationship advice Resources Mentioned: Find Your Flow in Love: 90-Minute Relationship Optimization IntensiveSpicy Substack on Human Design & Foreplay Connect with Dr. Krystal: Website: www.munromusings.comInstagram: instagram.com/munromusings Keywords/Tags: relationship optimization, human design, power couples, sport psychology, performance psychology, entrepreneur relationships, decision-making styles, energy management, relationship quality, partnership, self-abandonment, personalized coaching, high-performing couples
