    Büşra Kayıkçı reflects on water and borders in this edition of Musicians for Palestine podcast. Based in Istanbul, Büşra speaks on the ways that the city inspires the solo piano compositions that Büşra creates which people all over the world are listening to.

    On this podcast we also hear about why Büşra joined the Musicians for Palestine open letter that launched this past May, with over 600 musicians around the world standing together to support Palestinian human rights and to denounce the military attack on Gaza that the Israeli military carried out that month in which over 260 Palestinians lost their lives. Büşra speaks about why the Palestinian condition in Gaza spoke to her as a young mother and moved her to speak out for justice.

    On the second edition of the #MusiciansForPalestine podcast we hear the voice of Asher Gamedze, a musician, composer, writer and activist in Cape Town, South Africa. Asher is deeply involved in exploring the intersections between the arts and movements for justice in South Africa and internationally.

    Asher is one of the over 600 musicians from around the world who signed the #MusiciansForPalestine letter in May 2021, that collectively expressed support for the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people, speaking out against the Israeli government's military bombardment of Gaza that killed more than 245 Palestinians, as well as ongoing colonization of Palestinian resources and lands, as seen in Silwan and Sheikh Jarrah.

    In this exchange with Asher, we hear many important points that inspire this interview series, organized by #MusiciansForPalestine, aiming to highlight connections between struggles for freedom and liberation around the world. This is an open dialogue and highlighting of some of the artists who signed the Musicians for Palestine letter.

    In May of 2021, over 600 musicians signed a letter demanding justice, dignity and the right to self-determination for the Palestinian people, and calling on artists to refuse to perform at cultural institutions complicit with Israeli apartheid.

    This interview series aims to build connections between struggles for freedom and liberation around the world in dialogue with some of the artists who signed the Musicians for Palestine letter. The inaugural episode features Msaki, a composer and singer-songwriter from East London, South Africa. In it she asks the crucial question: "How do we hold on to compassion?" which rings true both in her homeland and in Palestine today.
