So glad this exists

This podcast has been a game changer! I like to read the classics when I can, but having just had my first child I was not prioritizing any reading except about diaper rashes and ear infections. Along comes Obscure, and now I’m “reading” a classic that I can say with 100% surety I would never have read on my own (season 1- Jude the Obscure) having not enjoyed Tess of the d’Urbervilles. Although I don’t agree with some of his takes, Michael’s reading is compelling and funny, and when the first half of the book was, imo, boring as HELL he voiced my own frustrations and made me not only not give up on continuing, actually enjoy the experience! If he had read Tess to me I’m sure I would have gotten more out of it. Michael takes the time (often with great exasperation) to look up words and re-read sentences he doesn’t understand. This is something I as a reader try to do but often neglect because I’m lazy… but it’s sooo lovely having someone do it for me. Thank you for this podcast! I loved Wuthering Heights so I’m actually slightly apprehensive about Michael’s irreverent take but I will be listening for sure.

Love the show and Michael

It’s an excellent show. I enjoy hearing the classics being read and Michael’s very comical narration. But please, for the love of god; as a person bingeing the 2nd season after blowing through the third- There are commercial breaks too often and I can’t hear the same ones any more!!!

Encore, please!

I loved every bit of this podcast from the funny to the morose, from the sarcastic to the earnest. Here’s an idea for your next podcast, Michael, inspired by episode 61 : Read DH Lawrence’s “Lady Chatterly’s Lover”. Change the podcast title to “Lover”, natch. Tagline: “Come for the classic literature, stay for the d***.”
