Comedian Michael Ian Black is tackling a great work of literature. Actually, Tackling might be too strong a word. More like “light caressing” plus a lot of complaining. He’s reading the Thomas Hardy classic, Jude the Obscure, out loud and commenting as he goes. Join Michael and friends like Jen Kirkman, Mike Birbiglia, Michael Showalter, and even his teenage daughter, as he discovers the world of Victorian England. Is it a terrible idea? Probably. But it’s a terrible idea he wants to do with you.

Encore, please!

I loved every bit of this podcast from the funny to the morose, from the sarcastic to the earnest.

Here’s an idea for your next podcast, Michael, inspired by episode 61 : Read DH Lawrence’s “Lady Chattery’ Lover”. Change the podcast title to “Lover”, natch. Tagline: “Come for the classic literature, stay for the d***.”

Obscure

I loved everything about this podcast. I laughed, I cried and I became a little smarter. I am sad that it is over and the book is done. I loved it so much I would even buy a mug with the word Obscure on it (That there is loyalty). As soon as Michael Ian Black picks another book I will be there to listen. I read Hardy’s The Mayor of Casterbridge in school and I don’t believe I had this many feelings when it was done.

Fun Podcast

I have been binging this podcast over the last several days and have laughed out loud in every episode. Unfortunate it will be coming to an end soon. I hope Michael Ian Black decides to read another classic. Best podcast I've heard in ages.
