Open Era Gold: Rome — Clash of the Titans

Open Era Gold: Rome — Clash of the Titans

It took Iga Swiatek 46 minutes to win her first title in Rome. It took Rafael Nadal 162 minutes to win his 10th title in Rome. They’re at different points in their careers, but let there be little doubt, both players are incredible. This week on Open Era, Simon and Devang recount an amazing week for the Polish teen and examine yet another riveting edition of the Nadal-Djokovic rivalry. That, plus Roger Federer’s return in Geneva, Ash Barty’s injury and Andy Murray’s future coming up on this week’s show!

    Madrid: The Longest Week

    Madrid: The Longest Week

Was that the best WTA Final of the year? Devang and Simon certainly thought it was right up there. The ATP side? Well, that was a different story. We were both worried that someone would withdraw from the final while it was happening. Enjoy us unpacking a very strange week in Madrid plus Parting Shots as always!

    Madrid: Hola a Todos

    Madrid: Hola a Todos

Hola a todos! We are pleased to be back after Devang’s back injury. Unfortunately, it will keep him out of the French Open. He joins Simon this week to chat about the winners and losers of the past few weeks on the European Clay Courts. Plus they get into Garbiñe Muguruza’s retirement and Russel Fuller’s article on the future of tennis.

Open Era Gold: David Nalbandian — Giant Slayer

Open Era Gold: David Nalbandian — Giant Slayer

This week we profile someone that never became world number one or captured a Grand Slam, but accomplished something no other player has . David Nalbandian defied explanation, until you saw what he could do on the court when everything was just ‘right.’ We saw that happen in 2007 at the Madrid Open when he became the first and only person to beat Nadal, Djokovic and Federer at the same tournament.

Monte Carlo: The Home Grand Slam

Monte Carlo: The Home Grand Slam

Stefanos Tsitsipas wins in Monte Carlo again. It’s becoming almost routine for the Greek after he saw off a low ranking Danish player in the final. Devang and Simon examine a controversial week in the tax haven where the debate about line calling continued to dominate the headlines.

Open Era Gold: Jennifer Capriati, Tennis Survivor

Open Era Gold: Jennifer Capriati, Tennis Survivor

Graf, Navratilova, Seles, Serena, Hingis... Jennifer Capriati not only competed with the game’s greats, she beat them. It was an unconventional path. From youth prodigy to tennis survivor, Capriati put herself back in slam contention in 2003 when she met Justine Henin in an all-time classic semifinal under the lights at Arthur Ashe.

Hanooman ,

Thoughtful, knowledgable pod

I’m not a tennis expert but I do know enough about the sport that I want thoughtful discourse about the game that helps me stay up to date... Simon and Devang bring that every week on Open Era. Whether I agree or disagree with their takes, I’ll watch the matches and think “yeah I see that... I think it’s wrong but I see it” I couldn’t ask for anything more... highly recommend.

Top tier

I have never listened to a more knowledgeable guy than Devang about this sport. You can truly hear how passionate he is about the game.
I’d give this 6 stars if I could.

I’ve waited so dang long for Devang to launch a tennis specific podcast, and this far exceeded anything I could’ve hoped. Teaming up with Simon makes for an all class pairing. Great stuff.
