The Culture of God's Word with Hal Senkbeil and Lucas Woodford

Kelsi chats with co-authors, Hal Senkbeil and Lucas Woodford of the newly released "The Culture of God's Word: Faithful Ministry in a Post-Christian Society." The duo talk about remaining faithful to the preaching of God's effective words of law and gospel no matter what ministry trends or cultural contexts surround us. They also discuss the importance of allowing the Word to supersede culture wars and the call for the church to embrace both hospitality and embodiment. Rev. Dr. Lucas V. Woodford, (MDiv, STM, DMin), is President of the Minnesota South District of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod and Associate Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Farmington, MN. Dr. Woodford is a Fellow in the Collegium of DOXOLOGY: The Lutheran Center for Spiritual Care and Counsel, charged with research, writing, and speaking regarding the care of souls in the contemporary context. President Woodford is a husband to Becca and father to their seven children, five girls and two boys. Harold L. Senkbeil was born and raised on a Minnesota farm. His rural background has shaped his approach to work and people. He married Jane Frances Nesset in 1971. They are the parents of three and the grandparents of four. Harold was a parish pastor for 31 years prior to accepting a position as Associate Professor of Ministry and Mission at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Since 2008 he has served as Executive Director for Spiritual Care for DOXOLOGY: The Lutheran Center for Spiritual Care and Counsel and spends his time teaching and encouraging pastors to hone their skills in the ancient art of the cure of souls. Blaise Pascal: Faith, the Self, and Our Modern World with Graham Tomlin

Graham Tomlin joins Kelsi to discuss the influence and faith of 17th-century polymath, Blaise Pascal, based on Tomlin's most recent book, "Blaise Pascal: The Man Who Made the Modern World." The two discuss his similarities and differences with Martin Luther, his views of 17th-century French society (and how this culture offers many lessons for our modern world), and his contributions to Christian apologetics. Graham is the editor-in-Chief of Seen & Unseen, and a former Bishop of Kensington. He is a regular contributor to national publications and has written many books and articles, both academic and more popular. He founded the Centre for Cultural Witness, home to Seen & Unseen, in 2023. He taught theology within Oxford University for many years before founding St. Mellitus College. Evidence for the Resurrection with Adam Francisco

What does it mean for Paul to claim that if Christ has not been raised, our preaching and faith is in vain as he states in 1 Corinthians 15? Adam Francisco joins Kelsi to talk about the importance of centering Christian apologetics on the resurrection of Christ as a historically reliable event. The two also discuss helpful responses to many of the common objections to the resurrection and how the apologetic task has shifted in a post-Christian and post-enlightenment age. Adam Francisco is Director of Academics and Scholar in Residence at 1517. He earned his DPhil from the University of Oxford in 2006 and served as Professor of History, Dean, and Assistant Provost in the Concordia University System for nearly two decades.
