Welcome to Overdue Finds, an Edmonton Public Library podcast. Bryce Crittenden and Caroline Land will be hosting conversations about movies, music, books, pretty much any sort of popular culture and media you can think of and likely some you’ve never thought of. We’re hoping you’ll learn more about what you can find at the library.
The Golden Girls
Prepare your confetti cannons - it's time for the 100th episode of Overdue Finds! Bryce and Caroline thank Katie Turzansky for being a friend [of the show] as she graces the podcast with her presence for a fifth time. The trio discusses all things Golden Girls, honour Betty White (who sadly passed away shortly before celebrating a centennial of her own), and reminisce about the importance of this hilarious and heartwarming 80s sitcom.
Best of 2021
The new year is almost here, but before we ring in 2022, Overdue Finds takes a look back at the year that was. Hosts Bryce and Caroline are joined by returning guests Richard Thornley and Nancy Sheng to share their favourite books, movies, music, and more. We also get into what different media formats mean for library collections and brainstorm ideas for the Overdue Finds Person of the Year. Plus: what we finally checked out this year and what we can’t wait for next year. Don’t miss it!
It's A Wonderful Life
It’s the 75th Anniversary of the Ultimate Christmas Movie - “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Join Bryce and Caroline as they talk about this classic with podcast guests Indy Randhawa and Camilla Fita. Though this film was initially underappreciated by our podcast panel, their minds have changed over time. Listen in to hear their conversation as well as a few surprising takes such as - George Bailey being compared to Jack Nicholson’s character in ‘The Shining’! and - the ‘The Godfather’ is a Christ
Lord of the Rings
Pop culture anniversary alert! Bryce and Caroline welcome back Kate Gibson, Official Best Friend of the Show, to discuss Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings film trilogy just in time for The Fellowship of the Ring's 20 year anniversary. Caroline expresses her love for the Council of Elrond scene, the group discovers which members of the Fellowship they would be, and everyone touches on the story's most memorable and/or most meme-able moments. Also, as you can imagine, spoilers!
Writing Video Games
On this bonus edition of Overdue Finds, Bryce and Caroline chat with Edmonton writer Shelby Carelton who was a Narrative Designer on the new hit game Call Of Duty: Vanguard. You'll hear how she got started writing games and what it was like working on one of the biggest video game franchises.
Here we go again! Get ready to feel the beat from the tambourine as Overdue Finds dives deep into ABBA! Bryce, Caroline, and returning guest Katie Turzansky discuss the band’s early days, their brand new album Voyage, and next year’s ABBA hologram concert series. Plus: Eurovision, Swedish tax law, and the group's surprising Edmonton connection.
THIS Podcast is an overdue find!
Listened to a few of these podcasts over the past few days, and honestly what a great podcast. There are so many different topics from comics to video games to music, there is probably at least one podcast for everyone. It’s refreshing, and actually provides some great info about these things. I especially liked the ones (so far) about John Douglas and Beastie Boys vs RHCP!
Definitely recommend if you haven’t had a listen yet!
I just found out about this podcast in my latest email from EPL. As books, both physical and audio, and podcasts take up the majority of my free time (as well as time spent driving) this is right up my alley. The hosts have a natural chemistry and the banter flows nicely and without force. The content is interesting and I can already tell will keep my library hold requests near their limit. I’m excited to see what more comes from this podcast as it moves forward.
Excellent podcast with John Douglas. Accessible, informative speaker. The lecture should be a great event!
