Welcome to Overdue Finds, an Edmonton Public Library podcast. Bryce Crittenden and Caroline Land will be hosting conversations about movies, music, books, pretty much any sort of popular culture and media you can think of and likely some you’ve never thought of. We’re hoping you’ll learn more about what you can find at the library.
The Best of Halloween
Do you like scary movies? Bryce and Caroline have a hosts-only discussion about The Haunting of Hill House, background music, and their favourite Halloween-themed (or at least Halloween-adjacent) picks. Listen in for some classic recommendations and new finds for this year's spooky season!
Building NHL's Hub City
In this special bonus Overdue Finds episode, Bryce and Caroline talk with two hockey insiders (Jody Young and Stu Ballantyne from the Oilers Entertainment Group) to find out what it was like going from shutting down in March to shutting out COVID (no positive tests in the bubble during the entire run of the playoffs!). We get the inside scoop on everything from dressing rooms to making ice to what it was like feeding all those NHL teams!
Overdue Finds gets interactive as Bryce and Caroline are joined by returning Official Friend of the Show Kate Gibson and Capital City Press Featured Writer Davis G. See to talk about interactive storytelling. We talk about Twine, video games, choosing your own adventure, and more!
The Library is Open
The Stanley A. Milner Library has officially reopened! On this week's episode of Overdue Finds, Bryce and Caroline talk with Milner Managers Richard Thornley, Holly Arnason, Tamara Van Biert and Dan Alfano about all of the cool things the new library has. From gamerspaces to makerspaces, The Wall to windows, we get the behind-the-scenes story of what it was like opening this space and what it was like to say #HelloMilner.
Dungeons & Dragons
Like three adventurers on a quest, Bryce, Caroline, and Meg delve into the world of Dungeons and Dragons (D&D). Listen to hear podcast team member and long time D&D player, Meg, Dungeon Master (DM) the conversation about this popular Role Playing Game (RPG). Meanwhile, Caroline and Bryce top up their D&D Intelligence (INT) and Wisdom (WIS). Meg shares many tips and resources on how to play from home, build a D&D group and characters.
Few things are eerier than the unsolved mysteries of Unsolved Mysteries. Did you know that you can now stream classic episodes of the show through Hoopla? It's true! Bryce, Caroline, and Overdue Finds Family Member Meg DeForest dive in and discuss Robert Stack, re-enactments, and really scary things. Plus: an email from an enthusiastic listener, our favourite Heart songs, and when it comes to aliens - is the truth really out there?

THIS Podcast is an overdue find!
Listened to a few of these podcasts over the past few days, and honestly what a great podcast. There are so many different topics from comics to video games to music, there is probably at least one podcast for everyone. It’s refreshing, and actually provides some great info about these things. I especially liked the ones (so far) about John Douglas and Beastie Boys vs RHCP!
Definitely recommend if you haven’t had a listen yet!
I just found out about this podcast in my latest email from EPL. As books, both physical and audio, and podcasts take up the majority of my free time (as well as time spent driving) this is right up my alley. The hosts have a natural chemistry and the banter flows nicely and without force. The content is interesting and I can already tell will keep my library hold requests near their limit. I’m excited to see what more comes from this podcast as it moves forward.
Excellent podcast with John Douglas. Accessible, informative speaker. The lecture should be a great event!
