Ep.181 | Early Specialization in Your Sport
In this episode, Coach Eric references a USA Hockey article and corresponding X thread to discuss the skew towards early specialization in hockey. He and Coach Andy use this to explore why the long term athletic development model is key for youth and long-term hockey success. Similarly, they discuss specializing in a certain position as a hockey player and how the game is trending towards ‘positionless’ play.

Ep.180 | Balancing Academic & Athletics for Future Success
In this episode, Coach Eric reads a note sent in from a university hockey coach about using hockey as a vehicle for life success. The boys cover in detail the importance of preparing for life beyond hockey, and ensuring you are ‘checking the boxes’ along your hockey journey. Preparing yourself for life alongside pursuing hockey does not take away from your sport focus, but enhances it.

Wicked Podcast
Well worth the listen for parents who don’t know how to help their kids navigate youth hockey. Lots of information on “how to think” instead of “what to think.”
Would like to hear some thoughts on how to train during an upper or lower body injury for youth (U12-U9 AAA) who are self motivated?
Awesome info
Love the podcast, great info, the banter is great. I’ve learned what my role as a parent should be, so I don’t interfere with his development and love of the game. I have one critique, the podcast is quiet, I have to crank the volume just to hear it.
Thanks for making a quality podcast and from preventing me from becoming an over bearing hockey parent.
Started from the beginning with Episode
Parent of 2 young boys that play hockey. My wife sent me IG clip of you guys talking about the game. Like both your vibes and saw you guys had a Pod. Been listening since episode 1, currently at 60. Eric love how you balance the chat with Andy.
Love Eric perspective bc not everyone makes pro so it’s nice to hear his route from hockey to school which most of the kids will go through.
Making this comment bc of Episode 60. Looking forward to catching up to current pod.
Keep up the great work boys. Love from London ON.
