Dick Turpin Part 1: The Essex Gang
“Stand and deliver! Your money or your life!”. It’s the 1730s, the era of the Highwayman. These words haunt the dreams of every rider and coachman who travels the roads of England. The cloaked bandit, face covered, looming out of the darkness - moonlight glinting off the barrel of a flintlock pistol. Noble robbers, folk heroes, or sadistic cutthroats? The myth of these outlaws, these so-called ‘gentlemen of the road’, has stalked English legend for centuries. A no legend looms larger than that of Dick Turpin.

Customer Reviews
Looking forwards to seeing queer icons featured!
Haven’t listened yet, but I’m just popping in to remind folks of the appropriation of queer history (ie cowboys, women in the old west and pirates)— it’d be awesome if this podcast could feature their stories— after all, most of outlaw history is queer history 😌😌
