Bill Maher managed to encapsulate, in his end of show monologue, why men continue to feel entitled to abuse women.
In his mansplaining diatribe, Maher wondered why, if Cassie Ventura was being used by her tormentor, she texted him to say she was up for another freak off-and it seemed to leave him confused.
What a non-victim of sexual, psychological, emotional abuse cannot understand could fill a library. Men say “just leave”…Maher said so too, because apparently it’s easier for victims to do so now than it was decades ago. Instead of educating himself on the psychological damage, the emotional and mental destructive toll that victims suffer for the rest of their lives and how that destructive abuse imprisons many in those relationships, Maher manages to effectively point the finger of blame and shame on the victims for not just leaving.
And just like that, we’re back to blaming the victims. Maher, I suspect, will get some backlash for this-but will it be enough for him to find out for himself why his opinion is dangerously skewed? He has a platform of millions who give his opinions weight-doesn’t HE have a responsibility, if not for the audience at least for himself-to obtain the knowledge BEFORE rendering an opinion shared with the masses?
Do better Bill.
