  1. Fair play off the field with Kim Short

Fair play off the field with Kim Short

Welcome back to The Sporting Change Podcast. We’re glad you’re here. Today, we’re tackling one of the biggest challenges facing sport right now: governance. There’s a persistent belief that to be involved in governance, you must come from a sports background. While experience in sport can be valuable, this mindset can place the wrong people in the wrong roles and can therefore create serious conflicts of interest. Too often, we see organizations prioritizing their reputation over the safety of children. We’ve seen non-disclosure agreements used to silence people, maltreatment issues being brushed under the rug, and secret funds created to pay out victims rather than address systemic harm. Joining us today is Kim Shore, a leading Safe Sport advocate, writer, and governance leader, and we’re excited to welcome her back for her second appearance on the podcast. Kim brings deep experience in sport governance and child-centered advocacy, and she’ll help us explore what conflict of interest really looks like, where it comes from, the consequences when it’s ignored, and how organizations can prevent it—or respond ethically when situations arise. Before we begin, a quick disclosure: we are not lawyers or legally certified professionals. Nothing shared in this episode should be considered legal advice. Let’s get into it. —---- Dare to Care, a trailblazing organization committed to tackling bullying in sports, is now the proud host of the Sporting Change Podcast!  Thanks to their partnership with BRP’s Ride out Intimidation program, Dare to Care’s Sporting Change Podcast can continue to educate and empower sport leaders around the world.  Please click here or follow us on social media @daretocaresports if you want more information on how to get your free Dare to Care bullying prevention sessions!

Balancing Motherhood & Sport with Paige Crozon (OLY)

Welcome to another episode of The Sporting Change Podcast! This week, we’re thrilled to welcome Paige Crozon (Crow-zon)—an elite athlete, coach, and mom—who joins us to share her journey of balancing life on and off the court. Paige has been a driving force behind Canada’s international success in 3×3 basketball since 2019. She’s helped Canada win back-to-back FIBA Women’s Series titles, capture medals at both the World Cup and AmeriCup, and most recently, secure a historic Olympic berth for Paris 2024. As a former University of Utah captain and long-time member of Team Canada, Paige has been competing on the international stage for over a decade. But her story goes far beyond the medals. Paige is also a coach, sport leader through her role with the Living Skies Indigenous Basketball League, and on top of it all, she’s navigating the world of elite sport while raising her young daughter, Poppy. Today’s conversation will explore Paige’s experience as a mother in sport and the lessons she’s learned about resilience, identity, and redefining success in sport and in life. We know you’ll enjoy this inspiring conversation—so let’s get started!
