    Megan MacDonald earned a Joint Honours degree in Business and Economics from StFX in 2014. Learn about the work she has done while employed at the Bank of Canada and Department of Finance in Ottawa, the courses she took as part of her M.A. in Economics at Queen's University, and the tips she has for first-year students.

    Episode 5: Warren Ferguson (BSc 2017) / Queen's U. Economics and Law

    Warren Ferguson was the first student to earn a BSc Joint Honours in Physics and Economics at StFX. He then went on to earn a M.A. in Economics from Queen's University in 2018, where a course in Industrial Organization sparked his interest in Law and Economics, specifically competition policy. He is currently attending law school at Queen's, where he is specializing in competition law.

    Episode 6: Grace Tompkins (BSc 2019) / U. of Waterloo Biostatistics

    Grace graduated with an Honours degree in Statistics and was 3 credits shy of earning a Minor in Economics. She recently completed a MSc at the University of Waterloo and is starting her PhD studies in Biostatistics this fall. She speaks to us about her academic interests, overcoming adversity, completing her Masters degree during a pandemic, and about moving to the big city.

    Episode 7: Cormier (BA 2016), Sampson (BA 2018) and Rowe (BA 2019) / Charles River Associates

    Matt Cormier (BA 2016), Scott Sampson (BA 2018) and Amy Rowe (BA 2019) have a lot in common: (i) They all discovered Economics while at StFX; (ii) they all completed Masters degrees; and (iii) they all work at consulting firm Charles River Associates. However, while Matt and Amy work out of Toronto, Scott works in the Washington, DC office. Hear their stories about how StFX helped them develop the skills they needed to succeed, how they all ended-up at CRA, and of the usefulness of the StFX Economics alumni network.

    Episode 8: Tory Novakova (BBA 2011) / Aberdeen Standard Investments

    After graduating with a BBA in 2011, Tory Novakova did a 5th-year at StFX in which she continued playing varsity basketball, loaded-up on Economics courses and worked as a Research Assistant on campus. She then completed a Masters degree in Finance and Economics at the University of Warwick in the UK and was immediately recruited to work as an equity research analyst in Edinburgh. She currently resides in Boston, working for Aberdeen Standard Investments, but will soon be joining Amundi Pioneer Asset Management.

    Episode 9: Jack Evans (BA 2018) / RBC Capital Markets

    Jack graduated from StFX with an Honours BA degree in Economics and took several Business courses as electives. His interests in Business and Economics continued in graduate school, where he obtained a Master of Financial Economics (MFE) at the University of Toronto. He did extremely well in that program, even helping them recruit more students from Atlantic Canada. He is currently working as a trader for RBC Capital Markets in Toronto.

    Episode 10: Casey Jones (BA 2014) / Finance Canada

    Casey is a two-time national champion with X-Women rugby who graduated as the top BA student is 2014. After StFX she spent two years working full-time at the Bank of Canada in Ottawa while simultaneously completing her M.A. degree in Economics on a part-time basis at Carleton University. In 2016 she moved to the Department of Finance and is currently working on many projects related to quantitative economics, including forecasting models of provincial economic activity.

    Episode 11: Fletcher Hemmons (BBA 2011) / Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management

    Fletcher is a portfolio manager for a group that manages $1.5 Billion in assets. He majored in Finance at StFX, and took several complementary Economics courses. These have helped tremendously in his current position, where his group follows a "top-down" investment strategy which first assesses macroeconomic and financial conditions before focusing on specific industries or firms.
