    In Episode 6 of Stories from the Inside Out, we present a special live recording from  Desta’s Know Your Rights event at Ausgang Plaza in Montreal on March 30th 2023. The panel discussion, hosted by Desta Support Services Co-ordinator Svens Telemaque, focuses on the Superior Court of Quebec’s landmark decision on racial profiling in the case of Joseph Christopher Luamba vs. The Attorney General of Quebec. The panel also features lawyers Lex Gill and Mike Simeon, and community workers Schneider Augustin and Amanda Maxwell.     EPISODE 4 - TED RUTLAND

    SIO_EP04 “TED RUTLAND”  In Episode 4 of Stories from the Inside Out, we talk to Ted Rutland, activist, writer and educator at Montreal’s Concordia University, and actively involved in work around systemic racism, prisons, policing, urban planning and housing. Ted sheds light on his work with the collective Anti-Carceral Group, police misconduct and corruption, and how gang classifications in prisons impact and affect the lives of Black individuals moving through the Canadian justice system.     EPISODE 3 - EL JONES

    SIO_EP03 “EL JONES”  In Episode 3 of Stories from the Inside Out, we speak with poet, activist, journalist, educator, and prison justice advocate, El Jones. El walks us through evidence of systemic racism both inside and outside of the carceral system, and how it’s harming Black communities. Centering on community care, El shares solutions and provides perspective, challenging us to reflect on our own inner biases and judgement. Also highlighted are historical contributions of African Nova Scotians in Canada, their history of organizing, and the legacy of generational Black resilience.     SIO_EP01 “KIYHA” In Episode 1 of Stories from the Inside Out, we’re introduced to music artist, entrepreneur and Burgundy local Kiyha Schrouder, who was imprisoned for a year in Barbados after her vacation plans were abruptly upended. Kiyha speaks honestly and sincerely about her relationship with her sister and extended family, her struggle for mental and spiritual clarity while incarcerated, moving through a problematic and punitive justice system, and the realities of coming home.
