This is a delightful podcast beneficial to people who stutter, those who love them and those who want to learn about this common condition. The theme of stuttering acceptance is a prominent feature of this podcast. Acceptance is about living with oneself, trying to step out of ones comfort zone and talk more, irregardless of ones stuttering severity. It is about managing the social penalty and stigma of stuttering from both the speakers and listeners perspective. Acceptance is a speech tool, it eschews the pursuit of absolute fluency without denying the utility of speaking strategies. Speaking strategies and tools are useful to many, they may reduce the struggle and physical tension of stuttering, make the stutterer more intelligible. However, they are not infallible, and without dealing with the emotional and cognitive, the internal feelings, they may be useless beyond the therapy room.
Acceptance does not mean throwing in the towel on fluency, it means not being ashamed and embarrassed should you stutter. It is about not fearing stuttering and how to deal with the nasty fluency bigots. It means advocating for the right of people who stutter to participate, without prejudice in love, life and work.
