A podcast I love has done a promo for this show so I had high hopes. I listened to an episode about lake monsters but it was mostly just them making fun of Canadians while they couldn’t pronounce a single surname, region name, or even some important historical/cultural contextual figures and groups which was a little ridiculous after their half-hearted (sarcastic?) pseudo-complaints about how white people show up and act stupid in the sense of disrespecting indigenous and aboriginal peoples as well as referring flippantly to the oppression, genocide, and general injustices faced by the various communities and peoples whose lives were cruelly uprooted in horrendous ways and maybe shouldn’t be spoken about in such dismissive/disrespectful tones. I’m not sure if it stems from the white male privilege of never having to face the type of persecution that those they referred to so callously have and still do face here in Canada and the rest of North America but it was pretty disgusting to hear the tone with which they laughingly made brief references to the crimes committed now and in the not so distant past. I can’t be bothered to give these guys another chance, they’re pretty insufferable, and just making fun of peoples’ experiences and belief is and dismissing everything as fake evidence or superstition is pathetic, closed minded, and outright immoral behaviour, I’m sad these fools have been given a platform. Also, their banter is straight up lame, they’re terrible narrators/storytellers, and just something about their voices/tone/attitudes reeking of superiority complexes and delusions of being smarter than the average bear, shall we say, just isn’t even worth the time I took to look tjem up. Between the insensitive and judgemental “wise cracks” to the poor quality production and grating voices… there are better podcast out there much more worth your time. If I wanted to be talked down to by the special type of self proclaimed nerd that these two so proudly proclaim themselves to be I’d on Reddit complaining about the most recent MTG banlisf and trying to organize a riot against women being allowed to play “nerdy” games in public because they give off that very specific vibe that most women who have attended higher level competitive “nerdy” competitive events have probably also experienced.
My advice is to skip these guys if you’re a listener. My advice to these guys is speak respectfully about especially when you don’t represent the people you’re referring to and don’t know their struggle. Also, lose the general holier than thou attitude maybe.
Disappointed in what I was hoping to be a new favourite. Listener beware. Find the good pods and stick beside them but this ain’t it. 😐
