    Takeaways From An Impressive Jim Leonhard Bills Press Conference

    On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran shares some of his biggest takeaways after new Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard met with the media on Thursday, including coming up with a boxing comparison that fits the difference Leonhard and former Bills head coach and defensive play caller, Sean McDermott. Leonhard help court with the media for an extended period on Thursday and definitely had a few sound bytes as some of his core principles were being discussed, including being aggressive but also being aggressive without it becoming reckless. Leonhard also went on about he's been his best coaching guys who don't fit into a specific box or role and can be versatile on his defense. Patrick came away from the scrum extremely impressed and shares why, including the contrasting styles between Leonhard and McDermott that led to a Floyd Mayweather versus Thomas Hearns boxing analogy. He also discusses a few of the players currently on the Bills defense he's excited to see under the watchful eye of Leonhard and a few others that could find themselves on the outside looking in rather quickly.     Bills Final Season Positional Analysis & Grades

    On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to go over the Buffalo Bills 2025 season positionally, followed by Matt's final season-long grades for all areas of the team in an episode recording earlier in the week just before the Joe Brady hire. All season long the guys have gotten together to discuss the Bills previous game position by position with Matt assigning a grade for each. Obviously there's no more games to break down in that style so this is being turned into a season long evaluation of each position---the good, bad and ugly. Some positions certainly turned out to be pleasant surprises. For example who suspected the tight end room would be one of the biggest strengths on the team even with Dalton Kincaid missing time? Or how about Tre White holding down the cornerback spot alongside Christian Benford all season not just admirably (not admiral) but straight up excellent? It wasn't all good though. The defensive line's play was marred by two key injuries, other nagging injuries and a lot of inconsistent play outside of Greg Rousseau. Of course, perhaps the most intriguing position to discuss is quarterback. By almost any other QB's standard Allen had a stellar season, but coming off his MVP campaign of a year ago, will Matt grade him with a curve? All that and tons more.     Five Huge Questions Brandon Beane Must Answer

    On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran goes over five of the biggest questions that Buffalo Bills general manager (and President of Operations) Brandon Beane is going to have answer soon as he starts to construct the roster for 2026 under recently promoted first-time head coach Joe Brady. The Bills have been a perennial contender in the AFC since 2019, reaching two conference championship games during that span. But continuing to hit the "proverbial playoff wall" that owner Terry Pegula discussed led to the firing of longtime head coach Sean McDermott and while it hasn't been publicly stated, puts enormous pressure on Beane to make moves this offseason that's going to help them get over the hump because with McDermott gone, failure will (rightfully) fall squarely on Beane going forward. To that point Patrick comes up with five questions that Beane's surely asking himself right now and getting ready to make tough decisions on. Among them is if there's truly a place on the 2026 roster for Keon Coleman that is anything but a negative, who among the offensive line depth is ready to step up and become starters with the probability that at least one if not two incumbent starters will leave for free agency, does Brady lean on Beane to pull of a trade for an alpha WR No. 1 and did Dawson Knox play himself into another year with the club? Switching over to the defense, the Bills have a slew of pending free agents. Between the defense's struggles in Denver, a bunch of guys aging and a new defensive coordinator surely looking to come and change things up, how many of these Bills veterans will be back this season?     What A Jim Leonhard Bills Defense May Look Like

    On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Cover 1's Anthony Prohaska to discuss several Buffalo Bills topics, including new defensive coordinator Jim Leonhart and what his defense may look like for the Bills. Joe Brady was promoted to head coach following a search on the heels of Sean McDermott's firing, but that hardly means it's simply status quo for the Buffalo Bills. Most of Brady's coaching staff will be new to the team and that includes Leonhart, who was highly coveted and also drew strong interest from Baltimore and the Los Angeles Chargers. Anthony shares his opinions of the Bills decision to move on from McDermott, land on Brady and then add Leonhard to run their defense.     Joe Brady Presser Reaction: Color Me Impressed

    On today's Talking Buffalo, new Buffalo Bills head coach Joe Brady's introductory press conference took place on Thursday and Patrick Moran has a boatload of reactions, including why he came away from it surprisingly (very) impressed. It was a big moment for the direction and future of the franchise with the appointment/promotion of Brady and the press conference had a big moment feel. Brady didn't try to hide it either as he was overcome with emotion during his speech almost instantly, having trouble at times getting out words before he settled into the Q&A portion of the presser, asking a bunch of questions alongside general manager Brandon Beane from the media. Patrick goes over some of the more memorable highlights and quotes from the presser before getting into a handful of things he liked most and a few items he certainly could have done without. From there it's the biggest takeaways and Patrick lays out several reasons why he came away not only more impressed with the press conference itself, but feeling better as a whole about the Brady hire compared to when it was announced earlier this week.     Sabres On The Warpath! (Featuring Joe Yerdon Live From Sonny Red's)

    On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Buffalo Sabres and NHL writer Joe Yerdon to discuss the absolutely scorching hot Buffalo Sabres in addition to a little Buffalo Bills talk as well, recorded live from Sonny Red's in Lackawanna. The Sabres went on the road in Toronto on Tuesday night and smacked the Maple Leafs, 7-4 to win for the 19th time in their last 22 games. If Buffalo hasn't been playing well enough up front, defensemen Rasmus Dahlin netted a hat trick while the incredible transformation of Mattias Samuelsson continued with his racking up three assists. Joe was in Toronto with the team for the game and discusses what the vibe was like the in the arena and in the Buffalo locker room after that. A team that looked absolutely locked into a 15th straight year of the postseason drought finds themselves with an incredible opportunity to finally end it. Joe gets into several of the things he's seen and we've all seen that have made this possible---including a night and day transformation since Keyvn Adams got fired. They also spend some time talking Bills and Joe, a noted "Bills watcher" and not fan has some observations on the Bills decision to fire Sean McDermott and ultimately promote Joe Brady to head coach.     Bills Promote Brady To Wildly Unpopular Reaction

    On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has plenty of instant reaction after the Buffalo Bills promote offensive coordinator Joe Brady to head coach following interviews with several candidates, leaving some people puzzled and clearly most fans annoyed. Some thought the Bills may take their time with this hire  considering it was regarded as the most attractive job available, perhaps even waiting to speak to Seattle offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak after the Super Bowl. But whether it was fear of losing Brady to him taking another job or him really being their guy all along, he's the 21st head coach now in franchise history. One thing's for certain----fans don't like the move. Joe Buscaglia from The Athletic put up a poll and nearly three quarters of all fans who voted, well over 13,000 in the first hour said they didn't like the move. Patrick shares a few other hilarious (or maybe not funny to some) social media reactions from content creators and fans. Patrick has plenty of thoughts on the move while prefacing that he's remaining someone guarded with "hot takes" for the moment after the Sean McDermott rage last week.     Bills Coach Search Nearing End & Red Hot Sabres (Featuring Lance Lysowski)

    On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Buffalo Bills beat reporter Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News to discuss Lance's first year on an eventful Bills beat and how he's seeing the Bills head coaching search play out down the stretch with what appears to be the final four candidates. After coming to Buffalo in 2018 to cover the Sabres, Lance made the pivot this summer over to the Bills beat. He spends some time talking about the adjustments, of which there were many and getting acclimated to covering a different professional sport, something he's actually done prior to coming to Buffalo. He also sheds insight on the media room and reaction from both the Sean McDermott surprise (to most anyway) firing and subsequent press conference last week that was the talk of the league. They also discuss a column Lance wrote for The Buffalo News on Monday that the Bills would be wise to wait another two weeks to interview Klint Kubiak for their head coaching job. That said, according to Adam Schefter it appears the Bills are down to their final four candidates and a new coach could be hired within a few days. Lance discusses those candidates to and where he thinks this ultimately headed.
