Hello, I discovered the breakdown through following Shaun King on Insta. By far, it’s one of the best podcasts I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to. Firstly, Shaune and his colleagues are so transparent about their struggles, and the endurance/grit that is required to work in the trenches, and get the work done. The courage they show, in the face of constant political pushback, not to mention the spiritual warfare that comes along w the demons of racism and toxicity, is beyond admirable. Secondly, Shaun et al. are constantly teaching us how we can fight back against the diabolical plots of persons who’ve gone into public office under the pretence of trying to help the ppl; Shaun shows us how to interpret their actions and to hold them to account. Thirdly, the producer of all of the sounds, Wallace, is absolutely amazing. This podcast deserves multiple awards; the breakdown musical notes and familiar tracks that are played before action steps, and when Shaune says I’ll break it down, are brilliant. The base guitar, drums, singers, and just how it’s arranged; brilliant. Wallace is very intelligent, and thoughtful about his compositions. Lastly, the soothing and calming effect that Shaun has on our community, which is under constant trauma, is almost like having a realistic father who gives us guidance, while still keeping us encouraged and aware of the current realities. I’m 🇨🇦, but I attended both undergrad and grad school in the U.S., so I feel like I’m living out many of what he reports on, w you; also, the Canadian landscape/climate is not dissimilar, in that we have the same types of stories and state violence/structural racism, which you face. I feel empowered to push against, and be bold about my right to be in the Americas, bc my ppl were forced onto these shores and built this place; we were born here and deserve everything we’ve built. Thank you for educating us, constantly. I will donate and become a member as soon as I can!
Respectfully, my only constructive criticism, is that when Shaun is speaking, it would be nice if he did not end the episodes w, “I’ve gotta run!” But this also might be bc he’s usually live and this is a recording of what he tells his live audience. I just find that when I hear it; it detracts from what I perceive to be such an elevated and high calibre podcast! Otherwise It’s amazing!!!
