When April Balascio was 40 years old, something she’d feared for decades was finally proven true. Her father, Edward Wayne Edwards, really was a murderer. The Clearing is about what came after April called a detective in 2009 to tell him about her suspicions — a call that led to her father’s arrest and eventual conviction on multiple murders — and tracks the emotional journey as she and host Josh Dean dig back into her childhood, unravel the truth of her father’s life, and overturn a viral online narrative that had turned Edward Wayne Edwards into a kind of serial killer caricature.

I am taken and heartbroken

Thank you for you heartwork but myvheart goes to his daughter. The will, heart, resilience and selflessness it takes to do what she is doing. I am speechless and in admiration. This lady deserves all the praise in the world. I hope she gets my message.

Amazing!

I have never really gotten into podcasts before this one!! I had to feel completely focused and even found myself writing notes about the case. Josh Dean has an amazing voice and easy to follow. I recommend it to all my true crime loving friends and I recommend it to you. April’s story and her dad will truly keep you up at night

Beyond compelling.

This is a really unique take on cold cases. April survived her horror show of a childhood relatively intact and, even more remarkably, with a conscience. She took it upon herself to look things up and connect the dots about all the weird stuff happening around her when she grew up, no matter how ugly and awful the truth might be.

She was compelling to listen to and there are times when what her father did to cover his tracks -- the brazen audacity -- will still leave you shocked.
