The DSR Network

This podcast will take you on a smart, direct, sometimes scary, sometimes profane, sometimes hilarious tour of the inner workings of American power and of the impact of our leaders and their policies on our standing in the world. Hosted by noted author and commentator David Rothkopf and featuring regulars Rosa Brooks of Georgetown Law School, Kori Schake of AEI, and Ed Luce of the Financial Times, the program will be the lively, smart dinner table conversation on the big issues of the day that you wish you were having...without the calories. Sometimes special guests will join the conversation and always the emphasis will be on providing the unvarnished perspectives others shy away from. Deep State Radio is the insider perspective on American national security and foreign policy that you can't find anywhere else. Great with big gross exception

I love the shows on the feed other than “above average intelligence “, which ridicules protests against murdering civilians in the Middle East and fetishizes and celebrates murders of foreign nationals (and sometimes citizens) through covert state actions. “Oooohhh, isn’t this murder technology cool?” Barf.

Phenomenal episode. Thank you.
Robot

The robot voice is Uber irritating. Can't a live person read the copy? Again dump that guy. Not listenable How on earth did you get your job? Take voice lessons or join toastmasters or something. There is such a thing as PACING. A pause between stories would be helpful Maybe I've not recognized that Chris is autistic. He never asks his cohost how he is I. Response to the same question asked of him. Never says goodbye or thanks for listening. I'm trying too see him that way so I can be more understanding of his dead voice/inflection

This is the only podcast I’m genuinely excited for. The semi-weekly roundtable discussion are hilarious and informative. I haven’t completely warmed to the 1-on-1 conversations yet but they’re definitely worth a listen
The main podcast is fantastic

This is a great podcast on international affairs, with a strong sub-theme of US domestic politics. Rothkopf is a marvellous host and conductor, keeping the discussion substantive and timely while never falling into the trap of over-earnestness. The regulars and the frequent guests are equally strong. While there is a bit of group-think going on, this is not because the contributors are all Democrats or all Clintonites - they are critical thinkers. The only disappointing part of DSR has been the introduction of the "Washington for Beautiful People" interviews conducted separately by CIASpyGirl. This could have been an interesting opportunity to bring in West Coast views, or to explore the intersection of popular culture and foreign policy as represented in US films and TV shows. Instead it comes across as the host simply building her Rolodex by interviewing randomly chosen people who don't have any natsec experience. CIASpyGirl is in fact an odd choice of host, as she doesn't have any real experience in foreign policy or matters of state: she was a CIA operations officer, meaning she was focused on recruitment of potential spies. Expecting her to offer insights into matters of state would be like expecting an FBI HR officer to come up with ideas about a nation-wide anti-terrorism strategy. As someone who has had a long career in foreign affairs, I learn a great deal from every episode of DSR except the W4BP episodes, which I now typically stop and delete after just a few minutes. I don't know why Deep State Radio decided she should be the one to run their first spin-off podcast but it is not working.

I used to really love this podcast but it’s completely drifted away from foreign policy and now just talks obsessively about Trump
So fun!

About a month ago, I stumbled across this wonderfully named podcast and had to give it a try.... Much to my delight, I became totally transfixed by the new voices I was listening to. The smart and very witty conversation is so enjoyable. The rapport between all those on the podcast is warm, comical, respectful and affectionate. This has quickly become one of my top 3 favourite podcasts... only wish they posted more than two episodes per week!!!!!!

I’m so happy to have rediscovered the former ER gang on Deep State Radio. I really missed you guys.
Current events from a global perspective
2018-01-04
During the 2016 election, there was a great deal of complaining about ‘globalization’. This is about as useful as being opposed to the industrial revolution. It’s ok if you don’t like it, but it’s something that already happened and can’t really be reversed. Deep State Radio presents a thoughtful analysis of the US role in the world, of US current events as they impact the world and world events as they impact the US. It should be required listening.
