    Sherlock Holmes

Elementary, Dear Watson! Today we’re joined via Zoom by writer and illustrator, Molly Ostertag (she/her), to discuss her newest obsession, Sherlock Holmes! We talk about the crime-solving genius archetype that Arthur Conon Doyle unleashed on the modern era, the loyal and loving relationship between Sherlock and Watson, how Oscar Wilde influenced the character, the history of queerness in the Victorian era, and decoding the language and context of the 1800s. Plus, we touch on the many film adaptations of Holmes, why Watson is canonically sexy and an excellent fan-cast courtesy of thedrawingduke on Tumblr.
Note: Due to a microphone issue, this episode was recorded via web-call. Apologies for the audio quality, but trust us, the conversation is worth it.

    Muppets

    Muppets

It’s time to start the music and light the lights because we’re joined by professional puppeteer, Jordan Brownlee (he/him), to talk about the world’s most famous felt-based comedy troupe -  THE MUPPETS! We get into the legacy of Jim Henson and his team, how he brought puppetry to an adult sketch variety world, iconic muppet moments, memorable guest stars and the great lengths (and very awkward positions) that muppet performers put themselves through to bring your favorite characters to life. Plus, we discuss the books that we would most love to get ‘the muppet treatment’ and get an inside look on the process of becoming a Muppet performer.

Enthusiastic and endearing.

Kyah and Stephanie’s unbridled enthusiasm as well as that of their guest draws you in, regardless of whether the episode’s theme is a fandom you are already deeply entrenched in, or your first introduction to one you have yet to delve into. Their discussions create a safe place, where they are able to explore not only the best parts of a piece media and the fandom surrounding it but with care address aspects that can be problematic and/or controversial, understanding that you can be critical of something while still loving it and that doing so is actually quite important.

If a podcast was a warm hug…

If a podcast was a warm hug, it would be the fandom show. Unabashedly joyful in celebrating whoever you are and whatever you might like, the hosts inspire in me a desire to love something just because it makes someone, anyone happy. This wasn’t the podcast I asked for, but in these often dark times, it’s the one I need. My fandom is the Fandom Show.
