Align Your Marketing & Sales | Meredith Dennis

This episode of the Founder's Corner Podcast Corner featured Meredith Dennis, the Founder & CEO of Compression Marketing.   KEY TAKEAWAYS: - Things are going to take longer than you want them to. In most cases you’re going to have to be patient as you grow your business. There’s lots of choices to make and lessons to learn.  - Carve out time for the admin tasks. Meredith gives herself a “CEO day” to handle all of the housekeeping and administrative to-dos that build up throughout the week. - Shared ownership between teams is key. Traditionally, marketing & sales teams have been in charge of separate areas of the business. Today’s most successful companies have shared ownership between marketing & sales functions. - More collaboration between teams is required. Teams that can link together, learn from each other, and work together ultimately perform better. - Marketing AND sales. The teams that are succeeding today really leverage the “AND” piece of marketing and sales. This collaboration provides a much more cohesive experience for the customer and the company brand overall.  - Trust is built on open lines of communication and transparency. Each team member must be willing to learn from each other and break down the silos that exist between teams.  - Utilize job shadowing. It’s really valuable for marketers to sit in on sales meetings and pitches, and vice versa. It creates understanding and empathy for the other jobs. - Hold standing meetings between marketing & sales. These meetings should be structured around the customer experience and what the various team members are seeing from customers. You should also talk about how far the team is from the goal and what needs to be done to get there.  - Create aligned metrics. The marketing and sales teams should have shared responsibility for outcomes. KPIs like revenue, lead quality, lead volume, average order value, and touch points/conversion rates are good to track and both teams can help improve them. - Serve info in small doses. Often marketing teams can overload sales teams with information. The key is to give only the information the sales team needs, in the right dosage.  - Create a flow between marketing and sales. Marketing can learn from sales teams about what really matters to customers and they can help get testimonials. Direct customer input is crucial to creating better marketing content.    EPISODE RESOURCES:  - Compression Marketing: https://www.compressionmarketing.co/  - Meredith Dennis’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/meredithdennis/    ABOUT YOUR HOST: If you’re new to this show, my name is Eli Clark. The Past, Present, and Future of SEO | Scott Orth

If you’re an agency doing over $40k a year in profit, then message me on LinkedIn and I’ll send you some of our best stuff: https://www.linkedin.com/in/eliclark1000/ This episode of the Founder's Corner Podcast Corner featured Scott Orth, the Founder of Thrive Business Marketing. KEY TAKEAWAYS: If you’re just getting started, build up a contact list. That way when you move out on your own, you have some business at the ready. Getting clients is the hardest part. From there, the challenges of running an agency are all about delivering on your promises. Say yes to everything then figure out how to do it. Google has never really lost market share. Over the last 25 years, Google has remained dominant despite changes to search and search behavior. Search behavior has changed drastically. In the beginning, search queries were very archaic. Now with the help of NLP, search intent and SEO has become more complex. AI has amplified long-tail search. The evolution of AI overviews and NLP models have helped people realize that they don’t have to search for the same thing 3-4 times. AI search is the first thing in 20 years to take away market share from Google. Right now, AI tools are causing chaos. With new AI tools entering the market, seemingly everyday, it’s causing a sense of chaos among the business owners. After the chaos, the market will backstep. The AI noise will fade away and business owners will start to realize that they still need marketing experts to support them. AI creates a lot of problems as well as solutions. Eventually it’ll work as a tool in your toolbox, as long you know how to use it properly. Leverage AI as a content writing tool. It’s great to help you outline ideas and overcome writer's block. Use AI as the starting point. Creating great content with AI starts with good prompts. Then you need to take time to edit, change things around, and write it in your own voice. Test if AI generation content works for you. In Scott’s experience, AI written content with human edits does better than 100% AI content. You can’t just set it and forget it. Use AI tools as another tool in your toolbox. They don’t completely solve the problem and most require significant human input. Content is still relevant for SEO. Even with AI and NLP, discoverability is still largely based on content. Use the question, answer, citation format. FAQ content ranks really well on Google and AI search. The better you can back up what you’re saying with citations, the better you'll show up in AI search. New, fresh content is the foundation of AI search. Strive to write new content daily if you can but at least weekly. Showing up in AI summaries is going to be key. Traffic to websites will mostly likely go down, but if you’re showing up in AI search queries, then people are still finding you. Scale Your Team Into a 7 Figure Agency | Luke Eggebraaten

Get your free Agency Year-End Review. Just message me “review” on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/eliclark1000/ This episode of the Founder's Corner Podcast Corner featured Luke Eggebraaten, the Founder of Phaser Marketing. KEY TAKEAWAYS: Agencies live or die in their ability to retain clients. That’s not just about taking care of them on the results side of things, but also taking care of them as human beings. Building relationships with clients should be a key priority. There is value in niching down early on. It’s difficult to manage marketing projects across industries so finding a niche that you can deliver results for and enjoy working with is important. Three ingredients to picking a niche: You have passion for the industry, there is opportunity for growth, and the clients within your niche have the power to pay for your services. Leverage white label and contractors early on. Luke didn’t bring most services in-house until after they had reached 7 figures in annual revenue. Hire in-house once you're ready financially. Once Phase Marketing had reached critical mass, it made more sense to hire in-house over contracting it out. They could control the quality of work better and increase profitability. There is no end date in running a business. Business as a whole is all about learning, growing and tweaking in order to help the business to be better. It’s a journey. Leverage your business community to feed your passion. As an agency owner, you’re on a crazy mission to support your clients and make a better life for yourself. Talking with other agency owners can help you grow and find support. Staffing agencies are great resources for scaling your team globally. They’re in the business of finding candidates that have the skills you need and match your company's culture. Clear the way for your team members to step up. As founders we often think everything has to be done by us. In order to build leaders within your organization, you need to give people opportunities to step up, potentially scrape their knee, and learn from their mistakes. You’re not as special as you think you are. You’re not the only one who can sell, fulfill work for clients, or make decisions. You need to get out of your own way in order to grow. Be an AI filter for your clients. The world of AI feels like the wild west right now. Your clients don’t have time to keep up with everything. You can help them by implementing AI within your agency so that your clients still get the upsides without feeling overwhelmed.
