EP 82 - You don't have to love your body to love yourself - Angela's Story

EP 82 - You don't have to love your body to love yourself - Angela's Story

On this episode, we’re joined by Angela a participant in the Right Body for Me coaching program.
Angela is a successful, intelligent, accomplished woman, with a happy marriage and beautiful daughter.  Her life “looks great on paper” and yet like many women, she always felt like an imposter; unworthy of the love, acceptance and success she experienced because she was unhappy with her weight and appearance.
Though Angela spent years controlling her weight through dieting and exercise, and did experience weight loss at times, she never found that self-acceptance and contentment she was looking for.  There was always a bigger goal or more weight to lose.  And when “life happened”, and she was unable to maintain the level of control required to keep the weight off, she’d blame herself and feel guilty and ashamed for letting herself go.
Inside Angela shares her story of how she was able to find the food freedom and self confidence and acceptance she was looking for  - and to accept the love that was around her - EVEN though she still doesn’t love her body.  And how in doing so she’s been able to experience MORE success in her career, MORE connection with her family, and MORE self care.

EP 80 - You Gotta Do the Work to Get Results - Jennifer's Story

EP 80 - You Gotta Do the Work to Get Results - Jennifer's Story

On today’s episode, we are joined by Jennifer, a participant in the Right Body for Me coaching program.
Like many women, Jennifer spent her life cycling from one diet to another, never finishing or finding “success” with any of them.  But, she continued to believe that losing weight was the answer to all her struggles and always hoped that the next one would “work” and she’d feel better.
Eventually she realized that dieting wasn’t working and she started dabbling in the non-diet approach, however it didn’t seem to matter how much she learned or what programs she tried, she never found that freedom she thought she would gain by ditching diets.
In our interview, you’ll hear how one to one coaching was the thing that made the difference for Jennifer.  By having someone ask the tough questions, encourage her to dig down to the core issue and hold space for her - she finally felt safe to do the work to transform her limiting beliefs about health, weight and herself.
Jennifer shares how “doing the work” has given her the freedom she’s always wanted and opened up more possibilities than she even imagined.

    EP 79 - Movement for Functionality - Kimberly’s Story

    EP 79 - Movement for Functionality - Kimberly’s Story

In this episode, we are joined by Kimberly, a virtual personal training client of mine.
Kimberly had been doing great work with another coach around her relationship to food and body image, but was having difficulty engaging in movement without focusing on calorie burning or body shaping.
In the past, Kimberly had participated in extreme exercise behaviour, very much focused on aesthetics and weight, and had also been exposed to some harsh and demeaning training methods - all leaving her feeling really stuck and uncertain about how to exercise.
Kimberly wanted to improve her functional fitness and core strength, and knew she needed support to make sure she did so in a healthy and respectful way.  Inside she’ll share what’s changed for her now that she’s improved her relationship with movement.

EP 78 - Body Image, Core Beliefs and Unmet Needs with Molly Siefert

EP 78 - Body Image, Core Beliefs and Unmet Needs with Molly Siefert

In this episode, we are joined by body image expert, Molly Siefert.  Molly shares her body image story, illustrating how the quest to feel better in the face of a health challenge by restricting certain foods, resulted in weight loss and unexpected praise.  This led Molly down the slippery slope of finding validation in eating clean, being disciplined with food and exercise, and a “role model” for health - and she shares how damaging it was to her relationship with food, exercise, her body and herself.
Inside we talk all about how dieting behaviour, or our relationship with food, really isn’t about the food.  Rather, how we eat and think about food, is an expression of how we feel about our body and ourselves, which is formed by how we think of ourselves based upon our core beliefs about how a woman should look.
Molly shares some insightful tips to help you explore these core beliefs and how curiosity and self compassion can more you towards self-acceptance, greater connection and meeting your own needs.
    ---What you’ll learn by listening:
Why body image is such a struggle for women and why it’s so harmful to praise weight lossHow our body image stories are formed via the messaging we receive about women’s value being her appearanceHow our relationship with food stems from our relationship with our body, which stems from our relationship with OURSELVES. The sneaky ways we seek to validate our worth through perfectionism and people pleasingThe ways in which we abandon our own needs when we feel not good enough, and how we can rebuild that connection with ourself through authentic self care.---About our Guest:
Molly Seifert is a Body Image Coach and Mentor. She works with women who have decided to ditch dieting and now they feel uncomfortable in their body. The women she works with value authenticity but they feel held back from being fully themselves because of their body image. Molly helps them reconnect with their body so they can be unapologetically themselves, share their big gifts with the world and live their life authentically!

Like listening to a smart, kind friend.

Real talk. Kind, thoughtful, informative and helpful. I especially loved the unscripted vulnerability and confidence in the Celebration episode, #52. Feels like listening to a friend on the same journey and reminds me that there is no “right” way to be on mine.
