The Promised Podcast

An inside view of how Israel can warm your heart and make your blood boil. It’s a show by a journalist, a professor and an NGO professional who live in and love Israel even though it drives them crazy, and who each week discuss the latest in Israeli politics, culture, and society.

I’ve been listening to this podcast for about two years and thoroughly enjoy the topical topics, the banter between guests and host and highly recommend for anybody who wants to listen to a variety of different opinions on Israeli history, politics and life in general in Tel Aviv.

If you want to have a touch of an understanding of what is going on for Israelis; this is the podcast. You might not always agree; but we can listen.
If you only listen to one podcast on Israel…

it’s got to be The Promised Podcast. There is no other English language podcast, blog, magazine, website or newspaper that can give you a better, more complete insight to life in Israel. From the eclectic main topics to the issues followed with alert interest and great concern to the “Vat a Country” segments, the listener is rewarded with knowledge and humour and an Israel-fix that should last the seven days until the next episode. The hosts are all informed and informative on politics, pop culture, arts, music, history etc. And if that’s not enough, Noah’s intros fill in the gaps with minutiae and trivia extraordinaire. And he never boasts.

Nuance meets exuberance and curiosity embraces empathy — this a podcast where the hosts argue about how to solve the big issues facing Israel with love and respect and humour and show us the myriad of ways to understand the news of the day as well as the history of the past.
Da best!

Entertaining, informative, balanced. Fingers on the pulse of everything Israel… politics, culture, history, day to day life. To listen to Promised is to love it!
A highlight of my week

Thank you Noah! I spent the first 25 years of my life in Toronto, the next 25 in Tel Aviv and am now back in Toronto. There is no other podcast that captures my interest and imagination like The Promised Podcast. The big questions, the small questions, and especially the wonderful webs of intricate connections that Noah often weaves - every episode is a gem.
Five, but

This is a fabulous podcast but be forewarned of the completely gratuitous use of foul language for effect. Seeing past this defect, by listening, one can gain insight into the life and politics of Israel from the perspective of liberal-oriented American olim (Jewish immigrants to Israel) and others who occasionally join in.
Witty, informative & authentic

Noah and his talented team share their perspectives on current events in israel and challenge listeners to see things differently. I enjoy it weekly even though I live in Canada and not Greece.
Bound and gagged and loving every minute of it!

One of the first podcasts I listen to every week, The Promised Podcast will always have at least one item (if not all three) that will make you sit up and take notice if only because I can almost guarantee no one else is talking about Israel in quite the same colourful language that emanates weekly from host Noah Ephron and his band of regulars on this TLV1 podcast. And when the weekly podcast winds up with the "What a Country" segment, I am always ready to kvell with pride because of something the host and guests have found to renew their faith in that funny, little country we call Eretz Yisroel.
Enflueghed and ensorcelled

The single most reliably interesting, entertaining work which Natalie Portman has ever done, and frankly, the supporting cast also makes me deeply happy each week with a combination of too-short deep / interesting debates and music I didn't know I liked. Also, the very best radio show you can find in English on Israeli politics culture and events. Put together by an extraordinary group, this keeps my connection alive too, and I'm grateful, actually damn grateful for this show. Damnit.
