I don't have written words to sum up this episode but this quote from Dr. Khaled Abu El Fadl at The Usuli Institue (I highly recommend his book 'The Prophet's Pulpit') sums it up well. "What I cannot understand is when Muslims in the West ignore the moral universe of the Qur'an, producing an Islam that is about nothing more than meaningless rituals that do not lead to the liberation of human beings, the aspirations of justice, or to a higher ethical existence. Instead, this Islam teaches that your attitude toward this world must be one of bitter perseverance and patience, as this world is an evil place that must be endured before reaching the Hereafter, where the fun begins. Those who teach this kind of Islam not only create abnormal psychologies. They create sad, despairing, and bitter human beings who have big chips on their shoulders." Enjoy!
