The show is perhaps more biographical than topical and the host's interview method is often autobiographical. This means that sharing life stories often outweighs fish stories. I find the self-disclosure approach almost metaphorical of the disposition of the steelheader who care less about possession of fish and more about other things. This robs no passion for steelhead, but it does narrate it with some whimsy and hilarity. One potential critique could be the episodic iteration of the host's autobiography. I interpret this as being unassuming and in the moment, talking to guests less as journalistic sources and more as people and, often, friends. It has been an invaluable resource for me in my quest to become a steelheader.
