The Third Sub Episode 119: The Vancouver Whitecaps 2021 run comes to an end - what's next for them?

Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub Podcast presented by Macey's Sports!

In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to chat all things Vancouver Whitecaps, as the club finds themselves in an interesting position.

First, they dive into the 'Caps last game of the season, a 3-1 loss to Sporting Kansas City in the MLS Cup Playoffs, a result that unfortunately brought a late Cinderella run from Vancouver to an end.

In that game, they look at what stood out, including an uncharacteristic performance from the defence, some tactical genius from SKC, and a bit of bad luck.

Then, afterwards, they look at what this result means in the overall context of the season, before looking at if this edition of the 'Caps, failed to meet, met, or surpassed expectations.

Continuing the discussion, they then go into an in-depth look at the roster, seeing who might stay, and who might go, as well as what the plan might be for all of the many 'Caps currently out on loan, before looking at some who might join them next year.

Lastly, they take a look at a big weekend for Canada's National Teams, first looking at the announcement that the CanMNT are heading to Hamilton, Ontario, for a crucial World Cup qualifier vs the US in January, before looking at the CanWNT's most recent game, a 2-1 loss to Mexico over the weekend.

In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to chat all things Canadian Men's and Women's National Teams, as they wrap up a monumental year for the both of them.

To start, they dive into the more recent matches, a pair of crucial CanMNT games in Edmonton, in which Canada took a huge step towards the 2022 World Cup thanks to 2 big wins over Costa Rica and Mexico.

First, they break down what stood out from each match individually, before diving into some overall takeaways, including what this means for Canada going forward, first in terms of their World Cup hopes, then what this means in CONCACAF, and then lastly, what this means tactically and in terms of figuring out a best XI ahead of the big games that lie ahead.

Then, they shift over to take a look at the women's team, which is getting set to play a pair of friendlies in Mexico this weekend, seeing what to expect from them there.

Lastly, they then look ahead to what lies ahead next for the CanWNT/CanXNT, and how these games represent the start of their journey towards the 2023 World Cup, in a sense.

The Third Sub Episode 116: A potential shakeup in Vancouver, the 'Caps playoff push continues and a new commit for the CanMNT

Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub Podcast presented by Macey's Sports!

In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to chat all things Vancouver Whitecaps, along with a bit of Voyageurs Cup and CanMNT chatter, in the midst of another busy week of Canadian Soccer news.

To start, they first look at some of the more dark news, but news that is very important nonetheless, as they look back at some of the more recent developments in the latest Whitecaps Women's Abuse scandal, one that MLS recently stepped in on, looking at what that could mean for the 'Caps, who look set to undergo some much-needed changes at the executive level.

Then, they look back at the 'Caps most recent match, a 1-1 draw against LAFC, looking at what stood out to them from that one, which puts the 'Caps just 1 point away from returning to the MLS playoffs for the first time since 2017. From Vanni Sartini's tactics, to an interesting night statistically, they look at everything that went on in that game, one that could prove to be key on the 'Caps road to get to the playoffs.

Otherwise, they then take a look at a good week of thrilling Voyageurs Cup action, as that competition continues to roll on, before finishing with a bit of CanMNT news, breaking down the recent commitment of Genk forward, Ike Ugbo, to Canada, which was a piece of news that sent shockwaves through Canadian Soccer Twitter on Thursday.

The Third Sub Episode 115: An up and down week for the Vancouver Whitecaps continues

Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub Podcast, presented by Macey's Sports!

In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to chat all things Vancouver Whitecaps in the midst of another busy week for the club.

To start, they dive into some of the more sombre news surrounding the club, as some more sexual abuse allegations emerged from former women's players at the club. They look at what those allegations showed, and what that means for the 'Caps, who need to do more to address the issues presented in these allegations, which aren't the first ones to rock the club in the past few years.

Otherwise, they then dive into the 'Caps latest game, a massive 2-1 victory, one that now has them within just 1 victory of a playoff spot, something which would've felt obscene to imagine just a few months ago. They look at what stood out in that game, including a continuation of the Ryan Gauld/Brian White partnership, a big game for Cristian Dajome, and another solid game from the 'Caps backline, who continue to impress.

Lastly, they then finish off with a look at some of the 'Caps award nominees for MLS's awards that came out earlier this week, looking at what players could have a shout of potentially making the shortlist for the league's major awards at the end of the year.

In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to chat all things Vancouver Whitecaps in the midst of another big week for the club.

First, they dive into their most recent performances, breaking down what stood out in a week where they beat Sporting Kansas City and Portland Timbers, before rounding things off with a draw against the San Jose Earthquakes.

They look at some of the main storylines that stood out from the week, including the strong play of Leonard Owusu in midfield, to the increased competition at full back, before ending with the never-ending question at striker - what should the 'Caps do with Lucas Cavallini and Brian White?

Otherwise, they then look ahead to the 'Caps next game, a must-win clash against Minnesota United, before looking at some of the playoff permutations that await Vancouver as they get set to play their last 3 games of their 2021 season.

Lastly, they then talk about the other big question on the lips of 'Caps fans after their play as of late - should the 'Caps make interim head coach Vanni Sartini their full-time head coach? Based on what they've seen from him as of late, his credentials have continued to grow by the day, making it harder and harder to ignore him as the potential #1 option to fill the role.
